SEATTLE (AP) — Nikke Kokko stopped 26 shots in his first NHL start and Matty Beniers scored his 20th goal of the season as the Seattle Kraken beat the Calgary Flames 4-1 Saturday night.
The Kraken (34-34-1) won their second straight after learning before the game they had been eliminated from playoff contention when the Los Angeles Kings beat the Edmonton Oilers 1-0.
Seattle had lost six straight games before beating the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 in a shootout on Thursday.
Kokko, who made his NHL debut Feb. 25 against the St.

It’s pretty crazy that despite once having the longest active streak of playoff appearances, the Detroit Red Wings have officially been eliminated from playoff contention, meaning it will be the 10th straight season in which they have failed to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
That’s the longest active streak in the league now that the Buffalo Sabres are playoff bound.

It wasn’t a bad season for the Red Wings, and they certainly threw everything they had at it.

What a difference a week (and a change in playing surface) made for the Syracuse Orange, who returned home on Saturday afternoon and raced past the Virginia Cavaliers, 14-9, in another fast-paced game between the ACC rivals.
It wasn’t the highest-scoring affair ever played between the two, but if featured plenty of the traditional hallmarks of the rivalry: tons of up-and-down the field action, transition goals, and quick-strike answers.

Former world heavyweight champion David Haye described Tyson Fury’s win over Arslanbek Makhmudov in his comeback fight as an “optimal performance”.
Fury returned to the ring after a 15-month absence to secure a unanimous decision victory at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
It was not a vintage display, but Haye believed it was a good return considering the ring rust Fury could have been dealing with.
“Fury did exactly what he needed to do,” Haye told Netflix.
“That was the optimal performance for him.

SEATTLE (AP) — Astros rookie pitcher Tatsuya Imai returned to Houston after his third start to be examined for right arm fatigue.
A 27-year-old right-hander, Imai got just one out in Friday’s 9-6 loss to Seattle. He allowed three runs, one hit, three walks and a hit batter while throwing 37 pitches.
“Yesterday, he expressed some arm fatigue, so once we heard that we decided to just send him home to be seen by our doctors,” Espada said Saturday.
“Hopefully there is nothing wrong,” Espada added. “Just not good news.

NEW YORK — Things went from bad to worse in Queens seemingly in a matter of minutes, but if you’ve watched the New York Mets at all this week, it probably felt much longer.
Mental mistakes, defensive miscues and a lack of urgency early in the game led to an 11-6 loss to the A’s Saturday at Citi Field, the fourth straight for the Mets (7-8).
They fought back later, scoring five runs after the fifth. Bo Bichette homered for the first time with the Mets, a two-run shot off left-hander Jacob Lopez in the fifth that breathed new life back into the crowd.

Rory McIlroy has played in three rounds of the Masters as a past winner of the tournament.

McIlroy posted a 73 on Saturday, his worst round of this year’s tournament by far. He opened the door to be caught and the field took full advantage.

Few things make me roll my eyes like a gender reveal.
Look, I get that everyone is excited about having a kid, and that’s great. But stop making all of your friends and family waste their Saturday watching you pop a balloon full of colored confetti and celebrating what is, effectively, the outcome of a coin flip.
And then, everyone has to pretend to be excited about the result, even though we know someone is always upset.
But on Saturday, we got a gender reveal that wasn’t terrible at all.

Collin Morikawa owns a pair of major championships and seven PGA Tour wins.
Yet following a Saturday 68 at Augusta National Golf Club, where Morikawa claims to be swinging at “50 percent” because of back issues, the 29-year-old put his Round 3 performance at the Masters Tournament into perspective.
“It’s going to be one of the best tournaments in my entire career,” said Morikawa, with 18 holes to play. “Every step out there isn’t easy, and I’m just kind of one step at a time. But I’m really proud of myself.

Coming out of high school, Evan Stewart was labeled a star.
He was a 5-star prospect, the No. 6-ranked player in the 2022 class, with expectations that he would not only have an electric college football career but also a long and productive NFL career to follow.
After a decent two years with the Texas A&M Aggies, Stewart transferred to Oregon, where he was set to reach his ceiling with the Ducks. In 2024, Stewart had the best year of his career, but a knee injury in the spring of 2025 delayed and potentially derailed that NFL dream.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Abby Hustler, Taylor Heise and Britta Curl-Salemme scored third-period goals to help the Minnesota Frost beat the New York Sirens 4-1 on Saturday.
Lee Stecklein also scored a goal and Grace Zumwinkle had two assists for the Frost (13-3-4-6). Maddie Rooney had 23 saves for Minnesota — third in the PWHL with 49 points, behind Montreal (55 points) and Boston (54).
The Sirens (8-2-3-13), who had won back-to-back games, have 31 points. They trail fifth-place Toronto (34 points) and Ottawa (36) for the fourth and final playoff spot.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Los Angeles Angels rookie right-hander George Klassen left Saturday’s game against Cincinnati in the third inning because of a bruised nail on his right index finger.
Klassen, making just his second big league appearance, exited with the Angels trailing 5-1 after allowing five runs, five hits and five walks and two strikeouts. He threw 72 pitches and allowed a solo homer to Spencer Steer.
Klassen did not get a decision in his major league debut on April 5 against Seattle. He was the first Angels player to debut as a starter since left-hander Mitch Farris last Sept.

It was the seventh hole-in-one on the sixth hole at the Masters in tournament history, according to CBS.

The Irishman watched his tee shot on number 6 at Augusta National get better and better and better… until it was as good as it could possibly be. Lowry recorded an ace at 6 on Saturday and in the process moved himself into a tie for second at the Masters.

Riley Greene is doing something the Detroit Tigers haven’t seen in 16 years.
The 25-year-old reached base for the 15th straight game to open the 2026 season, marking the longest streak by a Tiger since Brandon Inge reached safely in the first 24 games of 2009.
Greene drove in one run with a single in the first inning then delivered a three-run home run in the third inning to power a 6-1 win over the Miami Marlins on Saturday, April 11, in the second of three games in the series at Comerica Park.
It was his first homer of the season.

Rounds of 67 and 65 put McIlroy six shots clear at the halfway stage, and he’s now in a really strong position to become only the fourth man to win The Masters in consecutive years.
The 36-year-old Northern Irishman has played with a real kind of freedom that we haven’t really seen from him in the past at Augusta National.
