Here’s another unpleasant surprise for NFL fans upset about NFL officiating in prime time: There wasn’t one missed face mask on a pivotal 2-point play in the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens game Thursday night.
There were two.
TWO!
And both went uncalled. Both were missed.
Not only did Nnamdi Madabuike get his hands on Joe Burrow’s helmet and pull it to the sides and then down, but on the same play, Baltimore rusher Odafe Oweh got his hands on the face mask of Bengals left tackle Cody Ford and torqued it to the right.

When I was a kid, my dream job was to play for the Boston Red Sox. After several (modestly) glorious years in the Hampton Youth Association and Winnacunnet High School, I realized my desire to get to the MLB was miles ahead of my ability to get there. So I strove for Plan B: becoming a play-by-play analyst for the team.
Through several twists and turns, that dream didn’t come to fruition either (life sucks sometimes, doesn’t it?). But without it, I wouldn’t have gotten the chance to write this column which, in no uncertain terms, has been a massive blessing.

The first Twitter response on the New York Yankees social media post sums it up perfectly: “No one wanted this.”
That’s how many Yankees fans, including myself, are feeling as the team has exercised manager Aaron Boone’s option and will be bringing him back to the Bronx for another season.
From a personal level, Aaron Boone seems like a standup guy and a manager that cares about his players and wants the team to succeed.

Curt Miller — who was the head coach of the Los Angeles Sparks for the past two WNBA seasons — has been named general manager of the Dallas Wings.
Miller was fired after two seasons in Los Angeles in which he accrued a 25-55 coaching record. Prior to his time on the Sparks, Miller was the head coach of the Connecticut Sun for 7 seasons, and before that, he was a Sparks assistant.

Lamar Jackson and company fought back from a 21-7 deficit in the second half, only to see Joe Burrow connect with Ja’Marr Chase with under a minute left to cut the Ravens’ lead to 35-34.
Zac Taylor kept his offense on the field to attempt the two-point conversion, to try and take the lead in the closing seconds.

Ty Ellis joined Becky Hammon’s staff in Las Vegas after years coaching in the NBA G League, and as an assistant for various NBA teams.
The Las Vegas Aces have hired a new assistant coach: Ty Ellis, a veteran coach with a myriad of experience in the NBA, USA Basketball, and the G League.
“I’m super excited to add Ty Ellis to our coaching staff,” said Aces head coach Becky Hammon in an official statement. “He brings a wealth of experience both as a head coach and as an assistant from the NBA, G League and international play.

The SEC will take center stage this weekend as two massive games dominate the schedule.
Alabama will travel to LSU to play what will likely serve as a defacto elimination game in the race for the College Football Playoff. Both teams have had a week to prepare for this one, so expect some fireworks between the two rivals. 
Georgia will visit Oxford to take on an Ole Miss team that is also in do-or-die mode in the CFP race. The Bulldogs’ offense has looked rough of late, and the Rebels are coming off of a resounding win over Arkansas.

Thursday night delivered one of the most thrilling Thursday Night Football games recently, as the Baltimore Ravens held off the Cincinnati Bengals 35-34 in an AFC North showdown. The Ravens denied a Cincinnati two-point conversion attempt with under a minute remaining to preserve the win in the final moments. However, that play might have Bengals fans a bit frosty for days to come, as a pair of apparent Baltimore penalties on the play were not flagged by officials.

When the NFL has lost Al Michaels, it has an unquestionable problem.
And that’s where we are Friday morning, following another prime time game that ended in controversy caused by deeply troubling officiating on Thursday Night Football.
“Too many games end this way,” Michaels said after the Baltimore Ravens beat the Cincinnati Bengals, 35-34. “They just do. 
“You miss calls. The whole thing. So frustrating for the fans. So frustrating.”
The Bengals and Ravens played an amazingly entertaining game for 59 minutes and 22 seconds.

A soccer match in Amsterdam between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ajax descended into chaos.
The Israeli soccer team was in town for the Europa League game when things spiraled out of control Thursday night. Fans of the Israeli team were attacked in the streets following the game, and the video footage is incredibly troubling.
Dutch police announced that 62 people were arrested, and five people were hospitalized, according to ABC News.
