DALLAS (AP) — Cooper Flagg was in the midst of an unprecedented run for an NBA teenager when the Dallas Mavericks firmly declared their rookie No. 1 pick the future face of the franchise.
That day was coming no matter what. It arrived with Dallas trading Anthony Davis, the 10-time All-Star who joined the Mavericks in a deal that cost them generational superstar Luka Doncic and sent their fans into a funk from which they’re still recovering.

Former Liverpool FC midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to resume his career by signing for Scottish giants Glasgow Celtic, according to reports. Word is it will be a six-month contract until the end of the season.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Bo Horvat broke a tie late in the third period and the New York Islanders went into the Olympic break with a 3-1 win over the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night.
Horvat went to his backhand off the draw, slipping the puck past goalie Jake Allen, with only 3:27 left to play. Casey Cizikas scored in the second period for the Islanders and Mathew Barzal scored an empty-net goal to seal the win for New York.
Cizikas put the Islanders up 1-0 at 6:30 in the second period, cleaning up a rebound in front of the net.

The Boston Celtics acquired rookie guard John Tonje from the Utah Jazz ahead of the trade deadline on Thursday, the team announced in a press release.
The Celtics sent forward Chris Boucher, a future second-round pick and cash considerations to the Jazz in a move that helped the team get under the luxury tax. The Jazz are expected to waive Boucher, allowing him to sign with a playoff contender.
In addition to offloading Boucher, the Celtics also moved Josh Minott to Brooklyn and Xavier Tillman to Charlotte.

Sergio Ramos takeover of Sevilla delayed due to relegation concerns
Last month, it was revealed that Sergio Ramos is in talks to become the next owner of boyhood club Sevilla. Talks between his consortium and the Andalusians have been ongoing in recent weeks, and although an agreement in principle has been reached, there is still a long way to go before the process is complete.
Ramos, who is backed by Five Eleven Capital, is in the process of doing their due diligence after reaching an agreement with Sevilla to become the club’s majority shareholder.

The NFL announced today that the 49ers and Rams will play in Melbourne, Australia, during the 2026 season, and 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey isn’t sure that’s such a good idea.
Talking to reporters at Super Bowl festivities in San Francisco, McCaffrey questioned how it’s going to work out for the 49ers to have to travel farther than any NFL team has ever traveled for a game.
“Australia’s pretty far,” McCaffrey said. “I’d love to see how the schedule would work. Transparently, that might be a little too far.

The federal pitch-rigging case against Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase exploded Thursday with shocking, new details. 
Court filings allege the All-Star manipulated outcomes in at least 48 separate games over the last two seasons.
The new total reveals a scheme far more extensive than the handful of games cited when the initial indictment was unsealed last November. 
Prosecutors now allege that Clase’s pattern of intentional balls and velocity manipulation was a consistent part of his routine from May 2023 through July 2025.

The San Diego Padres are reportedly moving closer to the franchise going up for sale with opening bids for the team expected to be submitted by the end of February, according to The Athletic. 
One of the people presumably interested in submitting a bid is Golden State Warriors team owner Joe Lacob, The Athletic’s Dennis Lin and Mike Vorkunov report. While Lacob has looked into the possibility of buying the Padres, he has not committed to making a bid, at least publicly. However, he has previously pursued attempts to buy the Athletics, Los Angeles Angels and Los Angeles Dodgers.

SANTA CLARA, California  — One key New England Patriots defender has been dealing with what seems to be a serious injury throughout the season, which has sidelined him at times.
Linebacker Harold Landry suffered a knee injury in Week 6 against the New Orleans Saints and then again against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 12.
“I got hit in the same type of fashion,” Landry told Patriots Wire. “It’s just been lingering on.

Kirk Cousins is ready for anything this offseason.
Cousins remains under contract to the Falcons, but the quarterback is expected to be released before March 13 because his reworked contract now calls for a $67.9 guarantee for the 2027 season to vest at that time. Cousins could sign a different contract to return to the Falcons after closing out the 2025 season as their starter, but he said on PFT Live that “my expectation is to not expect anything” when it comes to where he’ll be playing in the fall.
