U.S. Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) has threatened to work with Democrats if the debate over next U.S. Speaker of the House continues. The Nebraska congressman has referred to the efforts of 20 anti-McCarthy Republicans as “embarrassing” and said that he and his other “moderate” colleagues will be forced to work with the Democrats “on some concessions.”
“But people gotta tell their congressman, if they’re one of those 20, that the House is shut down, we’re not working on the issues that we campaigned on like lowering inflation, securing the border, supporting our law enforcement, none of this is happening,” Bacon told CNN’s Jake Tapper on Thursday.
“All our committees are now shut down, and it’s one these 20 people. They’re embarrassing the House, they’re embarrassing the Republicans, they’re embarrassing the country,” he continued. “So I think over time with focus, we’ll get some of these over. But we also have to be willing, to consider, working with the Democrats at some point, work on some concessions and get some support there if these 20 refuse to budge.”

Bacon — who voted for the partisan January 6 Congressional committee that has been used to hunt down conservatives over trespassing charges –has previously alluded to working with Democrats and referred to anti-McCarthy Republicans as “terrorists.”
“You don’t negotiate with terrorists,” Bacon told KFAB radio earlier this week. “It’s all been unilateral concessions and they keep moving the goalposts. They keep putting in new demands and I just think at some point you’ve got to stand up to that.”
