RALEIGH, N..C. (AP) — The Carolina Hurricanes twice found their two-goal margin halved in the third period of their latest playoff game with the Washington Capitals.
Each time they found a prompt response.
And that pushed the Hurricanes within a win of the Eastern Conference final for the second time in three seasons.
Taylor Hall scored on a breakaway chance roughly three minutes after the Washington Capitals scored their first goal, then Sean Walker added one minutes after NHL all-time goals leader Alex Ovechkin struck with a 5-on-3 one-timer.

May 12—VALLEY CITY, N.D. — Apparently, members of the Jamestown High School track and field team like the heat.
“It was a great day for the Blue Jay boys track and field team,” JHS co-head coach Ken Gardner said. “It was windy and warm in Valley City (but) we had lots of new state qualifiers.”
The Blue Jays wound up placing first at Valley City’s Bill Jansen Last Chance Meet on Monday with 160 points while the Blue Jay girls finished first with 134.5 points.
The Knicks have been resilient all season long — you knew they weren’t going to just roll over after being punched in the mouth by the Celtics in a Game 3 blowout loss on their own homecourt.
However, Game 4 did start on a similar note — as was the case just a few days ago, Boston simply couldn’t miss from the beginning and the Knicks got off to an extremely slow start on the offensive end.
Led by the red-hot shooting of Jayson Tatum and Derrick White, the Celtics opened a double-digit advantage less than five minutes into the game.
May 12—KLAMMATH FALLS, Ore. — The No. 4-seeded University of Jamestown could not overcome traffic on the basepaths, and it cost them in a 4-2 loss to No.1-seeded Oregon Institute of Technology on Monday, May 12, at the Lady Owls’ John and Lois Stilwell Stadium.
The Owls went 6-for-18 with runners on base and 4-for-15 with runners in scoring position. The Owls left nine runners on base. The Jimmies went 2-for-7 with runners on base and 2-for-3 with runners on scoring position. The Jimmies left three runners on base.
Dallas Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban provided a tremendous reaction on social media to the team winning the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA draft on Monday.
The Mavericks entered the evening slotted 11th in the draft lottery and had only a 1.8% chance of winning the top pick, the fourth-lowest odds to win since it was instituted in 1985. They have the top pick for the first time since 1981, when they selected Mark Aguirre.
Dallas now has the opportunity to draft Duke All-American Cooper Flagg, the overwhelming favorite to become the first player selected on June 25.
