TORONTO (AP) — Cleveland Guardians star José Ramírez was back in the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Blue Jays, two days after the third baseman left in the third inning because of a mild right ankle sprain.
The six-time All-Star was injured when he stumbled and fell while crossing first base on an infield single. Ramírez went down after being struck in the back by a throw from Blue Jays right-hander Chris Bassitt.
Ramírez was batting third Sunday against right-hander Bowden Francis.
Ramírez sat out Saturday when Cleveland beat Toronto 5-3.

The Pittsburgh Pirates wasted a game from starter Bailey Falter and fell 2-1 to the San Diego Padres on Saturday night.
Falter pitched 7.0 innings and allowed just one run but the Pirates left 10 runners on base and lost on David Bednar’s wild pitch in the top of the ninth, which allowed Fernando Tatis Jr. to score.
The Pirates (12-22) will try and salvage the series against the Padres (21-11) and put an end to a 2-7 stretch on Sunday afternoon.
First pitch is set for 1:35 p.m. with Andrew Heaney scheduled to start.
There were plenty of surprises in the 2025 NFL draft, including the New England Patriots selecting Vanderbilt long snapper Julian Ashby in the seventh round.
It was obvious by that move that other teams were interested, and the Patriots were avoiding a potential bidding war for an undrafted rookie free agent. They had an abundance of draft picks after wheeling and dealing throughout the draft for multiple trades.
So they used a seventh-rounder on Ashby.
According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, the talented SEC long snapper had private workouts with nine teams before the draft.
