PITTSBURGH (AP) — Dansby Swanson, Kyle Tucker and Seiya Suzuki all took Pirates ace Paul Skenes deep in the fifth inning as the Cubs pulled away for an 8-3 victory on Thursday.
Suzuki later added a two-run shot off reliever Kyle Nicolas as Chicago took two of three from the last-place Pirates.
Skenes (3-3), fresh off a masterful performance in a win over the Los Angeles Dodgers last Friday, labored through his shortest start of the season.

DETROIT — It only took three regular-season games for Tom Thibodeau to pinpoint the issue. The Knicks, who had just completed training camp and a preseason slate after trading five draft picks for Mikal Bridges, then shipping Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Karl-Anthony Towns, blew a 13-points lead in a six-point loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“I thought the defense was good,” Thibodeau said on Oct. 28. “But you’ve got to strive to be a 48-minute team, and we’re nowhere near that.

The Los Angeles Lakers have been relatively thin at the center position for a few years now. During Anthony Davis’ final seasons with them, they lacked a competent backup behind him, and it was one reason many fans criticized general manager Rob Pelinka.
Once Davis was essentially swapped for Luka Doncic on Feb. 1, the center position grew even thinner for the Lakers. They had to make do with reed-thin Jaxson Hayes manning the spot, while Christian Koloko and Trey Jemison III, both of whom were on two-way contracts, provided minimal depth.

The reason why the UFC pulled Douglas Silva de Andrade minutes after he hit the scale Feb. 28 in Las Vegas has now been revealed.
Thursday, the promotion said the cancellation came when anti-doping program CSAD detected the presence of furosemide, a prohibited substance, from a Feb. 14 urine sample. As a result, he has been suspended six months.
The notification just happened to come minutes after Silva de Andrade (29-6 MMA, 7-6 UFC) weighed in for his March 1 fight vs. John Castaneda for UFC Fight Night 253.
