The New York Knicks escaped Detroit with a wild one-point win on Sunday afternoon, which pushed them to a 3-1 lead in their opening-round playoff series with the Pistons.
The win, though, only came after a very controversial no-call in the final seconds that sent Pistons head coach J.B.
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — The New Jersey Devils were without defensemen Luke Hughes, Brenden Dillon and Johnathan Kovacevic on Sunday against the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 4 of their first-round playoff series.
Hughes and Dillon each missed his third straight game after suffering injuries in the series opener. Kovacevic left Game 3 when he didn’t return to the ice after the first intermission, leaving the Devils with five blue liners for the rest of the game they won 3-2 on 21-year-old defenseman Simon Nemec’s goal at 2:36 of the second overtime.
MADRID (AP) — Top-seeded Alexander Zverev got a warning from the umpire for taking a photo of a ball mark during the clay-court Madrid Open on Sunday after complaining about electronic line-calling.
The German player told umpire Mohamed Lahyani there was a “malfunction” with the system after a backhand from local favorite Alejandro Davidovich Fokina was called in while Zverev thought it had gone wide during their third-round match.
Zverev then took a phone from his bag and took a photo of the mark, for which he received the warning for unsportsmanlike conduct.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Brayden Schenn, Tyler Tucker and Justin Faulk each scored second period goals to help the St. Louis Blues beat the Winnipeg Jets 5-1 on Sunday to tie their playoff series at 2-all.
Robert Thomas and Jake Neighbours also scored, and Jordan Binnington made 30 saves for St. Louis, which has won 14 straight regular season and playoff games at home dating back to Feb. 23
Kyle Connor scored, and Connor Hellebuyck made 13 saves for Winnipeg before being pulled after Thomas scored his second goal of the playoffs 2:01 into the third period.
