South Africa beat Benin 2-0 on Tuesday to lead an African 2026 World Cup qualifying group by five points, but the advantage could be reduced for fielding an ineligible player last week.
Teboho Mokoena helped South Africa beat Lesotho in round five four days ago, but should not have played as he had accumulated two yellow cards, triggering an automatic one-match ban.
The women’s college basketball world was hit with a heartbreaker late Monday night when one of its stars, USC guard JuJu Watkins, went down with a season-ending injury in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Watkins, who was named one of four finalists for the Naismith National Player of the Year on Wednesday, sustained a reported torn ACL injury in the first quarter of No. 1 seed USC’s second-round win against No. 9 seed Mississippi State at Galen Center in Los Angeles.

Every player in the big leagues has gotten the opportunity to break that call-up news to a family member or loved one. It’s undeniably a moment those players will never forget.
And on Tuesday, the Astros were determined to make that memory extra special for Cam Smith who will improbably find himself on the Opening Day roster for Houston.
Smith was the centerpiece of the trade that sent Kyle Tucker to the Cubs, but with just 32 games of minor-league experience, the Astros probably didn’t expect Smith to make the big-league squad.
Brandon Beane was quick to pump the brakes.
It was April 27, 2023 and Beane just traded up two spots to select tight end Dalton Kincaid in the first round of the draft. Not only that, but the Buffalo Bills had signed Dawson Knox, a tight end popular with the fans and teammates, to a $52 million extension 10 months earlier.
Kincaid was a prototypical tight end, Beane assured. He was like a big receiver in the mold of Chiefs future Hall of Famer Travis Kelce and that’s how he was to be used by the Bills.
Early returns on Kincaid were positive.
This is a list not of the 50 best players in MLB — Buster Posey is no longer one of the best hitters in our sport — but, rather, of the top 50 people set to influence the 2025 MLB season. Think of these individuals as the predominant characters in your favorite TV show, with the season premiere airing on Thursday.
On this list are All-Stars, prospects and some players you’ve maybe never heard of, as well as owners, managers, front-office execs and four guys named Jackson (that’s one more than last year).
