Ostensibly, Major League Baseball ownership should be about beating the other 29 teams by doing everything possible to construct the most talented roster. Unfortunately, as we’ve learned in recent seasons, that’s not how many owners choose to operate their teams.
Why? Because it saves them money to avoid signing veterans, replacing them with cheaper, younger, less-talented players instead. 
How does this play out in practice? Well, as one example, there’s the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Nearly one week after the 2025 NFL Draft concluded, stories are still trickling out about prospects who received prank phone calls on presumably private numbers about being selected. 
Add running back Ashton Jeanty to the list, although his story has a bit of a twist. After being selected No. 6 overall by the Las Vegas Raiders, Jeanty received a call telling him that he’d been traded to the Dallas Cowboys. However, the running back’s fake news detector immediately set off and he knew that the conversation — which occurred 30 minutes after he’d been picked — was a farce.

Syracuse has landed Cincinnati forward Tyler Betsey from the transfer portal, Rivals has learned.
The freshman wing averaged 3.3 points and 1.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 32% from 3-point range.
In the 2024 cycle, he was a four-star recruit from Oakdale (CT) St. Thomas More. He chose Cincinnati over a handful of suitors, including Alabama, Rutgers, and UConn.

The Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles had an unexpected visitor on Friday.
Video posted to social media Friday afternoon shows a small aircraft made an emergency landing on the historic club’s golf course in Pacific Palisades. While the landing was bumpy, the plane and its occupants appeared to be unharmed.
