Apr. 17—MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Mavericks came out on top in their game against Eastmont on Tuesday night with a 1-0 victory.
“Once in a while we have our downs, but today was up,” said Mavs’ Joaquin Cervantes. “I’ve seen a lot of our players give it our all and that’s what I’m proud of.”
The game was decided by a penalty kick that the Mavs were able to keep Eastmont from overcoming with two minutes left in the game.
“We’ve been practicing a couple of free kicks; we were able to get it,” said Mavs coach Miguel Segura.

Apr. 17—WARDEN — When April 10 rolled around, Everett Cox, a freshman on the boys golf team for the Warden Cougars, hit the green early to work on his putting and chipping prior to the team’s match against Chewelah at Sage Hills Golf Course. He said it felt like a pretty normal morning to him as he got in some last-minute practice.
He said he felt good about that extra practice when going through his first hole in the match. After not being satisfied with his short game, putting in some extra time looked to be paying off.
