When Johnny Anservitz arrived on campus at the University of Akron last fall, the first thing Zips baseball coach Bryan Faulds told him was “nothing is guaranteed.”
Anservitz, though, has known that for quite some time now.
In his days at Lakeside High School, Anservitz couldn’t pitch much because the Dragons didn’t have a catcher who could handle him.
He spent three years at Mercyhurst, but never had an opportunity to pitch or even step on the field. He also had to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic’s effect on college sports.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Blake Treinen was placed on the 15-day injured list with right forearm tightness Saturday after the Los Angeles Dodgers waited almost a week to see how their right-handed reliever was progressing.
The move came a day after Treinen warmed up but didn’t enter the opener of a three-game series against the Texas Rangers. Treinen last pitched April 13, and manager Dave Roberts said he reported the soreness after that outing.
The Dodgers activated Evan Phillips to replace Treinen.
