If you’re unfamiliar with the Professional Women’s Hockey League, you need to get yourself introduced because these ladies are delivering the goods night after night, and that includes one of the silliest Michigan moves I think I’ve ever seen in a game.
And, better yet, it was the first one in league history.
Utah Hockey Club defenseman Mikhail Sergachev will face some old friends today, but he’s just treating it like another game.
At 5:00 p.m. EST, Utah and the Tampa Bay Lightning will face off against each other in the Delta Center. Utah wants to keep their flickering playoff hopes alive, while Tampa Bay is looking to stay in good form for the postseason.
However, there’s another storyline at play for Sergachev.
For six seasons, the Russian defenseman wore a Lightning sweater and helped Tampa Bay win consecutive Stanley Cups in 2020 and 2021.

There’s an interesting conundrum we continue falling into while working through mock drafts for the San Francisco 49ers.
There are clear needs the 49ers must address in this year’s draft. Their lack of success with their 2022 and 2023 classes put them in a bind where finding quality players in 2025 is paramount to re-opening a Super Bowl window.
San Francisco holds the No. 11 overall pick in this year’s draft, but it’s not a slam dunk they address their top needs on the offensive or defensive lines based on how the top 10 shakes out.
Erling Haaland helped Norway make a positive start to its World Cup qualifying campaign by scoring in a 5-0 rout at Moldova on Saturday.
Norway’s third and last World Cup appearance was back in 1998, two years before Haaland was born.
Now, Haaland leads a team featuring Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard that bears high expectations of reaching the 2026 tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
The Scandinavian side is favored to win Group I, which also includes Estonia and Israel.
Haaland scored Norway’s second goal against the outmatched Moldova.
It’s been two years too long since UConn’s Azzi Fudd played in the NCAA women’s tournament.
Fudd didn’t show any rust from missing all but the first two games of last season with a torn ACL in her right knee, and posted 21 points in the first half. Her presence on the floor helped UConn build a 50-point lead in Saturday’s first round matchup against No. 15 Arkansas State.
Fudd shot 8-for-11 on field goals and was 4-for-7 from the 3-point line.
Here is what you need to know about Fudd.
How old is Azzi Fudd?
Fudd is 22 years old.
BATON ROUGE, La — A series of coincidences surrounds San Diego State’s first appearance in the women’s NCAA Tournament in 13 years.
For starters, the Aztecs have faced Saturday night’s opponent, LSU, only once before: In 2012 when the Tigers defeated SDSU 64-56 in the first round of March Madness.
Even stranger, SDSU coach Stacie Terry-Hutson was on the opposing bench during that game, as an assistant coach for LSU.
A year later, Terry-Hutson left LSU to start her first collegiate head coaching job at SDSU. She has remained in the position for the last 12 years.
Trey Kaufman-Renn had 22 points and 15 rebounds, and the Purdue Boilermakers used a fast start to roll to a 76-62 win over McNeese in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.
Fletcher Loyer added 15 points. C.J. Cox finished with 11 points for the Boilermakers (24-11), who advanced through the Midwest Region to the Sweet 16 for the second straight season.
The Boilermakers will meet the winner of top-seed Houston and eighth-seeded Gonzaga in the regional semifinal. In his 16 NCAA Tournament appearances with Purdue, coach Matt Painter is now headed to his eighth Sweet 16.
