The Minnesota Vikings believe in J.J. McCarthy. Despite meeting with veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers during the offseason, Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said Monday that he feels “very good” about McCarthy’s ability moving forward.
The Vikings’ interest in Rodgers could have been seen as an indictment of McCarthy, but that’s not the case. O’Connell told ESPN “two things can be true at the same time,” when discussing the issue Monday.

CHICAGO (AP) — White Sox starter Martín Pérez has a no-hitter through six innings against the Minnesota Twins in his Chicago debut.
Pérez has thrown 93 pitches while striking out nine and walking three. The left-hander retired the first 11 batters before walking Ryan Jeffers.
Pérez, who turns 34 on Friday, was an All-Star with Texas in 2022 and helped the Rangers win the World Series the following year. He pitched for Pittsburgh and San Diego last season, going 5-6 with a 4.53 ERA in 26 starts, before signing a $5 million, one-year contract with Chicago in January.

The Edmonton Oilers have signed former Green Bay Gamblers and Sioux City Musketeers defenseman Damien Carfagna to a two-year entry-level contract, which will begin in the 2025-26 season.
The 22-year-old left-shot blueliner spent the past two seasons playing college hockey at Ohio State University. He skated in 72 games for the Buckeyes and recorded nine goals with 25 assists for 34 points.
Carfagna’s seven goals over 38 games in 2024-25 were a team-high among Buckeyes defensemen, while his 21 assists and 28 points ranked second.

The Chicago Bears made some impactful moves during free agency, including shoring up the trenches on offense and defense.
Chicago overhauled the entire interior offensive line (with Drew Dalman, Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson) and added pieces to the defensive line (with Grady Jarrett and Dayo Odeyingbo). While all five are expected to be impactful contributors in 2025, which free-agent addition has the most upside.
According to Pro Football Focus, Odeyingbo has the most upside for the Bears, noting he’s a young, ascending player who could be primed for a breakout.
