It can no longer be debated: all of Michigan has caught Detroit Lions fever.
Over the course of the past month, the Lions have gone from merely a great story to perhaps the most compelling team in North American sports. If Detroit—which tied a franchise record with 12 regular-season wins this year—beats the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC championship game Sunday, it will lock up its first Super Bowl berth.
The buzz around the Lions is palpable, and it’s not contained to Ford Field.

The LPGA and LET had agreed to come together for the betterment of the women’s game, but the Saudi’s squashed that idea.
Women’s professional golf was set for what was being called a ‘landmark change.’ The LPGA Tour and the Ladies European Tour (LET) had agreed to merge, injecting life into women’s golf overseas.
That has all come to a sudden halt.
Golf Saudi, a division of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund that bankrolls LIV Golf, has essentially blocked the proposed merger between tours, according to The Telegraph.
We have a lot to get to …
• We’re coming down the stretch with just two head coach openings left—and both of those are at a critical point. So let’s break those down.
The Seattle Seahawks had their old defensive coordinator Dan Quinn in through Thursday, and Quinn stayed overnight until Friday. Seattle was going to interview Raheem Morris on Friday, but he’s since taken the Atlanta Falcons job. Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero is on the slate for Saturday. They had New York Giants OC Mike Kafka and Las Vegas Raiders DC Patrick Graham come in last week.
The Ravens are activating tight end Mark Andrews from IR ahead of Sunday’s AFC Championship Game. Andrews has been out since injuring his ankle in Week 11.
Sports Illustrated’s NBA MVP rankings are back with some movement in the top five. There were some noteworthy moments for many of the names on this list in the last week, though it would appear for now Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid has tightened his grip on the award since our last check in. Let’s get to the rankings.
(All stats through Jan. 25. The previous rankings can be found here.)
1. Joel Embiid
How did Embiid follow up his dominant two-way performance against Nikola Jokić and the Denver Nuggets on Jan.
No cable? No worries — you have other options for watching tennis’ brightest stars battle in the grand slam final.
Patrick Beverley is 35 years old and averages 18 minutes a game while coming off the bench for the Philadelphia 76ers. He’s very much a glue guy, and while he’s an important piece for the 76ers, he’s not exactly creating headlines with limited playing time and scoring five points per game.
With that being Beverley’s new reality, he’s taken matters into his own hands and created his storylines by planting reporters in postgame press conferences, at least that’s the claim that some reporters are making.
The senior coroner in Sheffield, England has announced a suspension of her inquiry into the on-ice death of ex-NHLer and Nottingham Panthers forward Adam Johnson.
The 29-year-old was killed after being hit in the neck by the skate blade of Sheffield Steelers forward Matt Petgrave. This happened during an Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) game in October.
The incident kickstarted discussions of making neckguards mandatory. It also fueled questions about whether or not criminal charges should be filed.
Detroit Lions mega-fan Alex Chepeska thought this season would be different for the blue-collar team and decided to roll the dice, or should I say “get the ink” to prove it.
Back in August prior to the season even kicking off, Chepeska decided to get a Lions 2024 Super Bowl Champions tattoo for this season. And this wasn’t just a small tattoo that he got when he was drunk and put it on his ass or some place where no one would see it, my dude got a BIG one right dab smack on his arm for the whole world to see.
