One of the most newsworthy few-week periods in pro wrestling history has seen four major deaths—including two of the most creative pro wrestlers of modern times and one of the most influential writers of his era—AEW break a paid attendance record while running two pay-per-view shows in eight days and fire one of its biggest stars, as well as a weekend where both WWE and AEW had major shows on successive days.

A chaotic 2023 has seen at least two positive developments in sports.
One is the continued rise of Travis Hunter, Colorado’s wide receiver-cornerback extraordinaire. The Buffaloes star’s stock is sky-high after he burned No. 17 TCU for 119 receiving yards and an interception in his season opener.
Former Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald has been retired from the NFL since 2020, but apparently two of the biggest names in the league attempted to recruit him at various points.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid appeared on Fitzgerald’s Let’s Go! podcast with Tom Brady and Jim Gray and admitted he coveted Fitzgerald during the receiver’s career.
“I’ve tried to hire Larry 15 different times,” Reid said. “I begged him even when he was out a year to come back. C’mon.”
Brady, who is entering his first year of retirement, jumped in and shared a similar story.

Kansas City begins their title defense Thursday night, but they may be without a key member of their passing game
The Kansas City Chiefs begin their defense of last season’s Super Bowl title on Thursday night when they welcome the Detroit Lions to Arrowhead Stadium.
However, how that game unfolds between Kansas City and a trendy Lions team this preseason just took on an interesting wrinkle.
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce hyperextended his knee in practice, and according to head coach Andy Reid, his status for Thursday’s game against the Lions is “uncertain,” according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“They’re looking at it now,” Reid said, via NFL.com. “We’ll just see how it goes.”
Kelce, who has surpassed 1,000 yards receiving for seven straight seasons, has played in all but three games since 2014. In two of those games, he was a healthy scratch. He also missed one game due to COVID-19.
Despite his inconsistencies through much of the 2023 PGA Tour season, Justin Thomas received a captain’s pick and will represent the United States in the Ryder Cup later this month. It’s no secret that Thomas is searching for something, literally anything, that resembles form and has made it clear that he’s embracing the grind.
JT shared a clip to Instagram on Tuesday showing him working on a drill that involves two separate pool noodles and another alignment stick at his feet.
The AP Top 25 has some new faces this week, with Colorado making its leap into the rankings behind its win over TCU.
Deion Sanders put together a team that many thought wouldn’t have a chance to make a bowl game, let alone beat TCU in the opener. But the narrative around Colorado has certainly changed in one week, with the Buffaloes coming in at No. 22 in the new poll.
As for the Top 10, Florida State sent LSU packing, while Duke put a beating on Clemson last night in Durham.

Adrian Meronk, who has had a terrific season on the DP World Tour, surprisingly did not make the European Ryder Cup team.
Adrian Meronk was snubbed.
On Monday, European Captain Luke Donald overlooked the 30-year-old Pole as he finalized his team for the Ryder Cup.
Instead of Meronk, Donald opted for two young, rising stars: Ludvig Aberg of Sweden and Nicholai Højgaard of Denmark.
One secret to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins’ leap forward last season was QB coach Darrell Bevell.
Raiders defensive end Chandler Jones appears to have had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad Tuesday morning..
To wit, he posted several angry messages to his Instagram story, stating that the team had locked him out of its workout facility. In the posts, Jones railed against the Raiders and their leadership, specifically head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager David Ziegler. He even posted a screenshot of messages he purportedly sent to McDaniels.
