Scheffler shot a much better score on Friday at the Tour Championship, but the World No. 1 was beyond aggravated after his round.
ATLANTA — Scottie Scheffler fired off a bogey-free 65 to sit at 14-under through two rounds at the Tour Championship. Despite the better play, his demeanor after the round was not up to par.
The media area felt heavy as Scheffler answered questions about his day. The start of his interview made it obvious the former Masters winner was not having any of it. From his first answer, it was clear Scheffler wasn’t happy.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has developed into one of the most respected leaders in all of sports—partially due to his longevity, partially due to his seeming invulnerability to sub-.500 seasons, and partially due to the complex mix of personalities he’s had to manage over the years.
However, what sets him apart from his contemporaries are his quotes—witty, wise soundbites that border on the aphoristic at times.
Take, for instance, his response Friday morning to reporters who questioned his liberal use of starters in the preseason.
“I don’t need any validation.
USC’s 2022 season ended on a sour note with a couple of losses, but the Trojans have been rebuilding their defense and harnessing new talent to win in what is likely Caleb Williams’ last season.

Jon Rahm played beautifully Friday, vaulting into contention at the Tour Championship. But he made some interesting remarks after his round.
ATLANTA — Jon Rahm eviscerated East Lake Golf Club Friday, carding a 5-under 65 to launch up the leaderboard and into contention.
He is 12-under for the championship and now sits four shots behind Collin Morikawa and Viktor Hovland at the Tour Championship.
NFL quarterbacks face the most criticism of any player on the field on a weekly basis, so it seems only fitting that the wife of the game’s best player is often the target of fans on social media.
During a recent Instagram Q&A with her fans, Brittany Mahomes, the wife of two-time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes, answered questions from fans. Among her candid responses regarding inquiries ranging from her children to her husband, Brittany bluntly stated she doesn’t care what critics think or say about her.
“It used to yes. But not anymore,” she said.
NCAA suspensions for improper benefits may feel like a thing of the past, given how quickly compensation rules have been liberalized in the wake of NIL’s legalization in the summer of 2021.
However, Indianapolis is still watching.
LSU defensive lineman Maason Smith found that out Thursday when he was suspended a game—the Tigers’ opener against Florida State on Sept. 3—for an autograph-related violation that predates the NIL era. Smith was set to return against the Seminoles after suffering a season-ending injury in the two teams’ season-opening meeting last year.

Xander Schauffele owns East Lake, site of this week’s Tour Championship. He played great again Friday and is contending there again.
ATLANTA — Xander Schauffele should be named the owner of East Lake Golf Club.
Every time he steps foot on the property for the Tour Championship, he dominates the place.
The 49ers’ 2021 trade for Trey Lance can now be considered a disaster.
American sprinter Noah Lyles has taken his game to the next level in 2023.
Friday’s 200-meter final at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest provided the most compelling evidence of this yet, as Lyles ran a 19.52 to sweep the 100-meter and 200-meter races.
It marked the fifth world championship gold medal for Lyles, 26. Aside from his medals this year, he won the 200-meter race in Eugene in 2022 and the 200-meter and 4×100-meter relay in Doha in 2019.
Lyles, a native of Gainesville, Fla., also won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics in the summer of 2021.
