It’s only the first (full) weekend of the NCAA football season and already we have players making names for themselves.
On Friday, as the Michigan State Spartans were dismantling Central Michigan, sophomore MSU receiver Tyrell Henry rose to the occasion… literally.

ORLANDO, Florida – The NFL is off on Sunday before the opening weekend starts Thursday with Super Bowl champion Kansas City hosting Detroit (8:20 p.m., NBC).
But No. 5 LSU and No. 8 Florida State play Sunday (7:30 p.m., ABC) here in the game of the early season. And a world of NFL personnel executives and draft scouts will likely be glued to the television in addition to college football-starved fans as the first full weekend comes to a close. Former TCU football player Wes Smith was shot and killed Friday.
The TCU student, who was 21, was outside of a Fort Worth bar when Matthew Purdy allegedly walked up to Smith and shot him multiple times, according to the Daily Mail. Purdy was taken into custody shortly after carrying out the alleged murder. Purdy told police the two briefly spoke before shooting him in the shoulder, stomach and head.
Two people fled the scene, and Purdy allegedly pursued them, and told police he would have shot another woman if he had more bullets, according to the same report (via The Star-Telegram).

It is qualifying day at Monza.
And Max Verstappen will look to inch closer to Formula 1 history.
The grid is in Italy for the Italian Grand Prix, and if Friday’s pair of practice sessions were any indication, the pace will be blazing today. Carlos Sainz Jr., Lando Norris, and Sergio Pérez were the three fastest drivers in the second practice session, with Norris’s teammate Oscar Piastri just of the pace set by Pérez.
But lurking behind them is Verstappen, who won at Monza a year ago.

The 2023 Yankees may have had a rough season, but the club’s struggles took a backseat to history on Friday night thanks to the latest incredible home run from Aaron Judge.
With a 426-foot solo bomb off Astros ace Justin Verlander in the fifth inning, Judge  hit his 250th career home run—and 30th of the season—in his 810th career game, setting a new mark as the fastest player to reach 250 HRs in MLB history.
Judge’s 810-game march to 250 passes former Phillies star Ryan Howard, who took 855 games to reach the mark. Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner is third, taking 871 games to reach it.
