Michael Thomas was considered one of the best players in the NFL three years ago but has been limited to just 10 games since 2020 due to ankle and toe injuries. For the first time in a long time, the two-time All-Pro is healthy after several surgeries that included some hardware going into his body. On Tuesday, he addressed how his comeback has been postponed time and time again.
Specifically, he said the hardware and some bad luck are to blame.
“I don’t want to use this as an excuse,” Thomas told ESPN.

Good morning, I’m Dan Gartland. I meant to mention this earlier, but if you haven’t watched the HBO documentary B.S. High on the Bishop Sycamore football scam, I can’t recommend it highly enough. (Jimmy Traina wrote a review of the film last week.)

Nebraska dreams big
A world record could very well be set tonight in Lincoln, Neb.
The Cardinals do not look like they’re in for a fun year, but there’s a better bet on the board.
Deion Sanders had a bit of a petty response when referred to as a Nole.
Sanders was one of the best players in the history of college football, and was an absolute freak of nature on the field for the Florida State Seminoles.
It was in Tallahassee where the world was introduced to Primetime for the first time he stepped on an NFL field.
Yet, he didn’t graduate from FSU. For that reason, he doesn’t consider himself a member of the Seminoles.
Deion Sanders reacts to be associated with the Florida State Seminoles.
New York Yankees outfielder Harrison Bader had quite the awkward experience after he found out that he was put on waivers while watching television in the team’s clubhouse.
The worst part?
He had to go and play a game 10 minutes later. Nobody from the organization told him until after the game.
“I never watch ESPN,” the 29-year-old Bader told reporters after the game as his MLB playing future hangs in the balance depending on if any other team wants to sign him. Should no team claim him in 48 hours, Bader would then remain with the Yanks for the remainder of the season.
Harrison Bader found out that his time with the Yankees might be at an end unceremoniously on Tuesday before facing the Tigers but handled the situation with some comedy. After his team’s 4–2 win in Detroit, the center fielder explained that he found out he was put on waivers right before the game by watching ESPN in the lunch room and was then asked by a reporter what his reaction was to the news.
“Uhh like what does waivers mean?” Bader said with a chuckle.
With the 2023 season a week away, NFL teams were required to finalize their 53-man rosters on Tuesday. We tracked every team’s cuts here.
Jack Harbaugh has an extensive coaching history that dates back to the early 1960s, including tenures as head coach at Western Michigan (1982 to ’86) and Western Kentucky (’89 to 2002). His last coaching job came in ’09, when he worked under son Jim Harbaugh as the running backs coach at Stanford.
Now, for the first time in 14 years, the 84-year-old Harbaugh will return to coaching, filling a gap on Michigan’s staff as assistant head coach while his son serves a three-game suspension to start the year.
The term “breakout” has different meanings for different people in the world of fantasy football. Some folks believe it’s simply a player who will outperform his draft position. Others think it’s an established player who emerges into a regular fantasy starter after never having reached that sort of status in the past.
In my opinion, both definitions are true but with a caveat. I don’t see a player as a breakout candidate if he’s already reached his “statistical ceiling” during his career. For example, Justin Herbert or Najee Harris aren’t “breakout players” to me.
Aaron Rodgers and the Jets took on the Giants in preseason action on Saturday, a game which Rodgers debuted and the Jets won 32–24.
Rodgers went 5-of-8 passing for 47 yards, and threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to star second-year receiver Garrett Wilson.
HBO’s Hard Knocks, which has been chronicling training camp for the Jets this season, caught an interesting exchange between Rodgers and Giants linebacker Jihad Ward, who exchanged words after a Rodgers completion on the touchdown drive.
