The NFL is modifying its gambling policies that will punish players more harshly for betting on their own teams while also amending rules that will allow some players, including Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams, to return to the field quicker.

In his Friday afternoon press conference, Zach Johnson talked about a head cold that is bothering the American team at the Ryder Cup.
Apparently, members of Team USA have fallen ill at the Ryder Cup.
U.S. Captain Zach Johnson discussed this development at his post-round press conference on Friday.
“We have got some congestion and some just signs of things that are unfortunate,” Johnson explained.
NBA guard Josh Primo has been suspended four games without pay for conduct detrimental to the association, the league announced in a Friday morning press release.
“The league found that Primo engaged in inappropriate and offensive behavior by exposing himself to women,” the official NBA release said. “Primo maintains that his conduct was not intentional. … Nevertheless, this behavior does not conform to league standards and warrants discipline.
Pittsburgh Steelers star linebacker TJ Watt hopped on The Pat McAfee Show on Friday and gave details about a harrowing ordeal the Steelers had on their flight home from Las Vegas.
The team was forced to make an emergency landing in Kansas City around 5 a.m. Monday. Some reports referred to it as an “uneventful” emergency landing, to which I’d argue there is no such thing.
Now, Watt is giving his take on what happened on the way home from Sin City.
“Hearing code yellow and flight attendants you’ve prepared for this isn’t a fun feeling..
The NFL, in agreement with the NFL Players Association, is trying to fortify the rules that protect the integrity of the game by adjusting how it views and punishes gambling.
According to a memo sent to all 32 clubs on Friday, the league will now allow players to gamble on sports other than NFL football provided the betting is legal in the state the player is located and as long as he meets certain requirements about entering sportsbooks or wagering in the workplace or while working.
The Denver Broncos and Chicago Bears are so awful that several CBS affiliates called CBS this week and begged them to show the Miami Dolphins-Buffalo Bills game instead.
Welcome back to the NFL, Sean Payton!
The Broncos are coming off just an embarrassing loss to Miami last week. By now you’ve heard about it a billion times. The Dolphins put up 70 points and probably could’ve put up 100 if they didn’t show mercy.
Anyway, Miami is set to travel to Buffalo on Sunday in the marquee game of the day, while the Broncos travel to the equally terrible Chicago Bears.
A host of adjustments to the NFL’s gambling policy abruptly facilitated the reinstatement of several players on Friday, including standout second-year Lions receiver Jameson Williams.
Detroit entered the 2023 season without Williams, 22, after he received a six-game suspension in April for placing bets on non-NFL football games from an NFL facility. However, with such violations now reduced to two games, Williams’s time away from his team has come to an end.

The European Ryder Cup team dominated Team USA on Friday, as the home team holds a commanding 6.5-to-1.5 lead after day one.
Team Europe overpowered the Americans so badly that, for the first time in history, the U.S. failed to win a single match in a day at the Ryder Cup.
The look and feel of regular-season baseball has changed significantly over the past several years.
Games are markedly shorter, thanks to the advent of the pitch clock. Multi-extra-inning marathons have become an endangered species as the pandemic-era “ghost runner“ has stuck around for the long haul. Other subtle tweaks have created a sport that looks different from baseball in 2013 or even ’18.
However, some changes don’t carry over into the postseason.
The NFL has revised its policy in regard to gambling, making penalties more severe for players who bet on NFL games, the league announced Friday. Additionally, the punishments for betting on games in other leagues while in an NFL workplace will be alleviated as part of the agreement.
The new policy, which was agreed to by both the NFL and the players union, now calls for a one-year suspension for any player who bets on an NFL game and two years if the player bets on his own team’s game. If the league finds that a player fixed a game, they will be banned from the NFL for life.
