Christian McCaffrey has an opportunity to make both NFL and 49ers history in San Francisco’s Thursday Night Football matchup with the New York Giants.
The quote du jour in the NFL this week belonged to Bears quarterback Justin Fields.
On the heels of a rough performance in Chicago’s 27–17 loss to the Buccaneers Sunday, Fields seemingly criticized the Bears’ approach to coaching him.
“They’re doing their job when they’re giving me what to look at, stuff like that,” he said Wednesday. “But at the end of the day, I can’t be thinking about that when the game comes.”
Fields took great pains to walk back his comments, stressing that he would “never… blame anything on the coaches,” nor his teammates.
Justin, blink twice if you need help.
On Wednesday, Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields vented his frustrations to the assembled media and drew headlines for suggesting coaching was part of his poor play to start the season. As his quotes started making the rounds, Fields called the media back for a quick huddle just to make sure everyone knew he was taking accountability for his play and working alongside the coaches to figure out how to solve Chicago’s many problems.
One of the realities of football is that people are going to get hurt. Unfortunately, we saw that on Monday night when Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb suffered a gruesome, season-ending injury after being tackled by Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.
While obviously, the person who caught the worst end of that play was Nick Chubb, Fitzpatrick was also put in an unenviable position. He was on the receiving end of some criticism regarding the play, and now he’s giving his response.
With all eyes on Giannis Antetokounmpo over the past week following his comments about his NBA future, star teammate Khris Middleton shared his thoughts on the Bucks superstar’s future with the team.
During a recent interview with ESPN, Middleton addressed Antetokounmpo bluntly stating he could see himself being a Bucks lifer as long as the team stays committed to winning another championship.
A day after Justin Fields pointed to coaching as the reason for his “robotic” play, general manager Ryan Poles said the Bears don’t view their starting quarterback “as a finger pointer at all.
At Pac-12 media day in July, Oregon coach Dan Lanning downplayed Colorado’s decision to leave the conference to go back to the Big 12, arguing that the Buffaloes have not been impactful in the Pac-12.
“I’m trying to remember what they won to affect this conference and I don’t remember,” Lanning told reporters, just days before Oregon’s upcoming departure to the Big Ten was announced. “Do you remember them winning anything? I don’t remember them winning anything.
The stakes are as high as they have been for the 3-0 Buffaloes as they travel to Eugene this weekend to open Pac-12 play.
Panthers starting quarterback Bryce Young is expected to miss Sunday’s game against the Seahawks after missing practice on Thursday due to an ankle injury.
Backup quarterback Andy Dalton likely will start for Carolina if Young is officially ruled out. Young also missed Wednesday’s practice, leading the Panthers to sign quarterback Jake Luton to their practice squad. Coach Frank Reich said it’s unclear when Young sustained the ankle injury. It’s also unknown when he might return to practice.
