Portland State endured a brutal defeat during its season opener against Oregon, losing in blowout fashion, 81–7. 
During a Tuesday appearance on “The Bald Faced Truth with John Canzano,” Vikings head coach Bruce Barnum indicated that most of his team had avoided significant injury during the beatdown in Eugene, except for one player who Barnum said had “his ear ripped off.”
“We’re fine. Knock on wood. We had one guy get his ear ripped off. They sewed it back on, and now they say he has a concussion,” Barnum said. “So, he’s out, but I think he’s fine.

Saints rookie quarterback Jake Haener has been suspended for the first six games of the 2023 NFL season after violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
The NFL released a statement regarding Haener’s suspension, stating that the rookie will rejoin the team on Monday, Oct. 16, the day after the Saints play the Texans.
This puts the Saints in a sticky situation in terms of their backup quarterback situation.

Dodgers starting pitcher Julio Urías has been placed on administrative leave “until further notice” as Major League Baseball investigates allegations of domestic violence against him, a league spokesman announced Wednesday. Urías was arrested on Sept. 3 on a felony charge of corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant and has not pitched since. He also reportedly did not travel with the team for its series in Miami this week.
A Dodgers spokesman declined to comment.

Star wide receiver Cooper Kupp has been ruled out for Week 1, a major blow to the Rams, who are underdogs on the road against the Seahawks, and to fantasy managers who spent a first-round pick on the 2021 Triple Crown winner.

Cowboys linebacker and defensive end Micah Parsons praised Nick Bosa after the 49ers defensive end agreed to historic five-year deal, worth up to $170 million on Wednesday afternoon, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Moments after Bosa secured the deal, Parsons shared why he was “super happy” for the 49ers star.
“… He [Nick Bosa] really showed why he was the best player in the league last year, and it gives you something to chase,” Parsons said, per Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News.
