There is no caveating a perfect game.
Such is the nature of perfection: It does not allow room for but or almost or well, actually… There are only the smooth zeroes of the box score. The feat remains far too rare to argue with. Until this week, MLB had seen just 23, not even two dozen across nearly a century and a half of history. Baseball is full of flukes and quirks and capricious twists of fate. But the bar for perfection is high enough that there is no backing into it. With so few perfect games in so many years? Accidents do not exist here.

Veteran sharpshooter Eric Gordon is set to hit unrestricted free agency this offseason after the Clippers declined to guarantee his $21 million contract for the 2023-24 season, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The decision to let Gordon walk will reportedly have some significant financial benefits for the team, too. According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, the team figures to save $110 million on its luxury tax bill. 
Heading into free agency, the Clippers had the highest estimated luxury tax bill in the league, by a wide margin.

Yankees starting pitcher Domingo German became the 24th pitcher in MLB history to record a perfect game on Wednesday after he shut down the Athletics during an 11–0 win.
German became the first-ever Dominican-born player to achieve the feat. The last MLB player to throw a perfect game was Mariners ace Félix Hernández back in 2012, so it’d been over a decade since fans were treated to a truly flawless outing.
German sat down all 27 batters he faced, striking out nine batters without allowing a baserunner.

New York Yankees right-hander Domingo Germán threw the 24th perfect game in MLB history. Germán led the Yankees as they wiped the floor with the Oakland A’s, 11-0, on Wednesday at the Coliseum.
Even the home crowd started to cheer as Germán, 30, faced three final outs in the ninth inning.

Germán retired 27 batters on 99 pitches. He called it an “emotional” night in the postgame YES Network interview.
