MLB has incorporated multiple rule changes for the 2023 season.
As spring training games begin on Friday, players and coaches are going to get their first taste of playing games with the new rules. The pitch clock, shift ban and pickoff limits are all among the rules that major leaguers have never had to play with before.
While MLB is hoping that these rules will help the game long-term, there are sure to be growing pains. Padres third baseman Manny Machado predicted players will be frustrated with umpires by how these rules are enforced.

The former coach spoke at length about the young signal caller this week.
With Tom Brady retired, the Buccaneers enter a new era, potentially one led by an unproven third-year quarterback Kyle Trask.
Trask, a former second-round pick out of Florida, has appeared in just one NFL game, completing 3-of-9 passes for 23 yards in Tampa Bay’s Week 18 loss to the Falcons. Even so, former Bucs coach Bruce Arians has the utmost confidence in the former third-stringer.
Welcome to NFL draft season and, of course, the chase for an elite quarterback at the top of the draft.
If you respect the opinion of NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah, and most people in the league do to the point some would like to hire him, then the coming draft will be strong on cornerback, edge rusher, and “outstanding” for teams wanting tight ends.
“The tight end group is the best I’ve seen the last 10 years,” Jeremiah said Friday. “It’s outstanding.”
Jeremiah is not as impressed by the receiver class as recent years.
The Ravens have stayed quiet regarding the offers that previously have been made to quarterback Lamar Jackson. Jackson has not been quiet, directly or indirectly leaking bits and pieces of the negotiations to the media. On Friday’s First Take on ESPN, Stephen A. Smith said that Jackson’s camp reached out with some specific information.

The Silver Arrows see day two of testing cut short due to a hydraulic failure
The first day of pre-season testing at Bahrain International Circuit brought hope for Mercedes.
The second day? It brought something much different.
Disruption.
After a first day of testing that the team called “productive,” allowing the team to believe that their aerodynamic issues from 2022 were well in the rear-view mirror, their second session on Thursday was cut short, and the Silver Arrows ended their day early having run the fewest laps out of all ten teams.
Sam Hurd, the undrafted wide receiver who played six seasons in the NFL, has reportedly been released from prison. The 37-year-old spent 10 years locked up.
According to the San Antonio Express-News, Hurd was released from prison on Jan. 31 and was sent to a residential reentry management facility.
In April 2013, Hurd pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring to possess cocaine and marijuana with intent to distribute and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
According to Doc Rivers, Joel Embiid did not want to play in the All-Star Game. The NBA made him play anyway.
Embiid, who is averaging 33 points, 10.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists during the 2022/23 season, is a crucial component to the 76ers’ success. Philadelphia is currently third in the East at 39-19.
Despite his strong play this year, Embiid continues to play through a nagging foot injury that required surgery during the offseason. As such, he would have preferred to use the All-Star break as a chance to rest up and get healthy.
