Yankees manager Aaron Boone provided fans with a positive update on Luis Severino’s injury recovery, as the 29-year-old right-hander prepares to return to the rotation and make his 2023 season debut.
Severino, who has not pitched this year, is expected to take the mound for his first start of the campaign on Sunday against the Reds, Boone announced Wednesday, via Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. 
It will be the final game of a three-game set in Cincinnati, though the starters have not been named for Friday’s or Saturday’s tilts at the Great American Ball Park.

A day after he fired head coach Doc Rivers following his team’s Game 7 loss to the Celtics, 76ers team president Daryl Morey told reporters that the decision “shocked” star center and league MVP Joel Embiid.
Morey fired Rivers after his third season with the team. The veteran coach still had two years remaining on his contract, but saw his Philadelphia tenure end after a third straight defeat in the conference semifinals.
“I have to make tough calls all the time with trades,” Morey said, per James Herbert of CBS Sports.

Arizona pitcher Zac Gallen was warming up pregame for the Diamondbacks’ game against the Athletics Wednesday afternoon, in advance of his next scheduled start against the Pirates on Friday. The session ended abruptly, however, when the two-time Cy Young top-10 finisher snapped off his curveball and struck a bird.

ESPN analyst JJ Redick does not believe Grizzlies star Ja Morant should receive a massive punishment for his recent off-court incident, in which he appeared to display a gun in an Instagram live video Saturday.
The situation comes after he was suspended for eight games in March for displaying a gun at a nightclub in Colorado. While Memphis has currently suspended Morant from team activities pending the league’s investigation into the issue, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski believes that the 23-year-old could face a “lengthy suspension” from the league this time around.

As speculation and rank rumor roiled outside the meeting rooms of the Ritz-Carlton in Amelia Island, Fla., this week, there was discussion among Atlantic Coast Conference leaders about doing what comes naturally amid realignment drama: putting out a statement of unity among the league members.
