DOUBLE HELMET!
Everyone is still getting used to football being back — even the players. This means getting back into the swing of seeing live fire, adapting to new personnel, and even forgetting how many helmets you’re supposed to wear.

Chiefs’ punter Tommy Townsend got a little confused after field goal attempt in the season opener vs. the Lions. He saw a helmet laying on the ground in his general vicinity, assumed his had come off, and tried to put it on.

During the Chiefs’ loss to the Lions on Thursday night, one of the storylines was Jawaan Taylor’s ability to line up seemingly illegally throughout the night. Kansas City’s veteran right tackle appeared to set up behind the rest of the Chiefs’ offensive line, but it wasn’t called for most of the game.
That is, until the final drive of the night, when the referees called Taylor for a false start during a crucial drive. On the penalty, NBA analyst Cris Collinsworth described Taylor in a way that makes it clear he didn’t think the tackle was playing by the rules.

One of the more interesting moments during the Colorado – TCU game actually occurred during a break in the action after Horned Frogs running back Trey Sanders went down with an injury. Interestingly enough, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders was one of the first people out to check on him.
An opposing coach going to check on a player is certainly a kind thing to do, but not something you see every day.

It’s finally here: NFL Sunday. We’ve spent most of the offseason speculating about who will break out and who will bust. Now it’s time to see how it all plays out!
It’s much more fun to watch a full slate of football if you have some skin in the game, so if you are looking to get in on the action, here are a few player props to consider for the first weekend of the season.
Cam Akers over 13.5 receiving yards (-110) Cam Akers over 2.5 receptions (+125)
Cooper Kupp is officially ruled out, and Matthew Stafford is going to have to throw to someone.

The Mountain West reportedly would like to fold under the PAC-12 banner with Oregon State and Washington State.
OSU and WSU are currently trying to get their futures figured out after the PAC-12’s collapse. They’re the only two programs without landing spots as of right now.
The most likely outcome is some kind of agreement with the MWC. Does that mean OSU and WSU join the MWC or do teams in the Mountain West move under the PAC-12 banner?
The latter option appears to be what MWC officials and programs would like to do, according to Front Office Sports.

It’s early in the season, and there shouldn’t be too much emphasis placed on any one single performace–good or bad. In the case of Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney, it’s definitely bad, even if it is only one game.
Toney’s butterfingers cost the Chiefs seven points when a perfectly placed pass from Patrick Mahomes clanged off his hands and into those of Lions defensive back Brian Branch, who ran it back for the score.

This ended up being a Patrick Mahomes pick-6 pic.twitter.

The Detroit Lions won this game and are off to a fine start for the first time in the Dan Campbell era. But this 21-20 Lions victory was as much bumbled opportunity by the Kansas City Chiefs as an achievement for the Lions.
The Lions showed trademark grit and resiliency in staying in this game, surviving a tough first half, and winning at the line of scrimmage in the second half to claim the win. So, great for Detroit.
The Chiefs, the NFL’s defending Super Bowl champions, were disappointing. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was asked if he was embarrassed and he agreed he was.

Household names predictably tend to lead the most notable statistical categories in the NFL. But not many expected Raiders running back Josh Jacobs to lead the league in rushing yards last season after needing to showcase himself to Josh McDaniels in the preseason opener.
After his breakout season, Jacobs is a strong candidate to repeat as the rushing champion. But there’s a rookie in Atlanta who’s capable of making an immediate impact to be in contention to lead the league.

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports
One year has turned Colorado from an afterthought to the forefront of college football.
The talk of college football after one week is Colorado, and everybody has an opinion. Deion Sanders has transformed the team into a lightning rod of attention, good and bad, which has invigorated a fanbase, infuriated the sport’s faithful, and caused everyone in between to have thoughts about how he’s doing business.
Colorado proved this team can’t simply be ignored as detractors hoped. They waltzed into Fort Worth against No.

The 2023 NFL season kicked off with the Detroit Lions going on the road and knocking off the Kansas City Chiefs 21-20. It’s hard not to describe the Lions’ upset win as a statement, unless you’re Mike Tirico.
Shortly after the clock hit zeros, Tirico felt the need to remind viewers at home one last time that the Chiefs were without both Travis Kelce and Chris Jones. Given that those two stars were out, the Lions’ win has “an asterisk” next to it, according to Tirico.

Nah this comment by Tirico is insane pic.twitter.
