Specialty nights have been the talk of the NHL in recent weeks, but people forget there are ones that don’t involve rainbow tape or identity politics. The Minnesota Wild hosted a specialty event — Military Appreciation — to honor the true heroes who make the American way of life possible.
The Wild honored military veterans and active service members on Tuesday night when they hosted the surprisingly struggling Edmonton Oilers. The Wild went on to win 7-4.
According to the team’s website a Joint Honor Guard with representation for the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marines.

The losers at Sam Houston State threw a fan out of their stadium last night because he showed up in an inflatable penis costume. Maybe that’s why they blew a massive lead and are now an 0-8 college football program?

The fan in question was seen being escorted up the stairs and out of the stadium during the second quarter when Sam Houston State led UTEP, 21-10. At first it’s a little tough to see what he’s wearing, but then both balls start bouncing on each step as he gets going and you quickly realize he’s a giant penis.
Wednesday marked the official NBA debut of Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama, which came in the form of a nationally televised matchup with Luka Dončić and the Mavericks. Fans and reporters alike flocked to see Wembanyama in his first regular-season game, drawing a media crowd that surprised even San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich.
Popovich joked with reporters ahead of the Wembanyama-Dončić headliner, asking if everyone was there to watch him and Dallas coach Jason Kidd ply their trade.

Veteran coach Rick Carlisle has not led the Pacers to the playoffs in the first two seasons of his second stint with the franchise, but the front office appears confident in the direction of the team’s rebuild. Following a season-opening 143–120 win over the Wizards, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Carlisle and Indiana have signed a multi-year contract extension.
Details of the new extension have not yet been reported.
Carlisle returned to the franchise ahead of the 2021–22 season and has a 60–104 record through the first two years back with the team.
College football fans may have been surprised by Utah’s 34–32 win over USC in Week 8, as the Trojans were expected to be one of the best teams in the country.
However, that result didn’t surprise at least one analyst. Urban Meyer praised Utes coach Kyle Whittingham as the best coach in college football on his Urban’s Take With Tim May podcast.
“I’ve said many times Kyle Whittingham’s one of the best coaches in college football,” Meyer said. “Now he’s the best. He’s the best coach in college football.”

It was announced Monday that the Dolphins will be featured as the in-season Hard Knocks team, and two of the squad’s biggest names did not hide their dismay at the selection.
When quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was asked about the news of Miami’s selection Wednesday, he paused for 11 1/2 seconds before saying a word.
“That’s probably my reaction,” he said, according to the Palm Beach Post.
Miami star cornerback Xavien Howard was less subtle.
“Hard Knocks is [expletive], especially during the season,” Howard said. “No, I’m serious. I’m not a fan.

Combat sports have always been near and dear to my heart in video games. From Mike Tyson’s Punch Out on the NES, to the legendary Fight Night Round 3 on the PS2/Xbox there’s just something magical about blending the intensity of a traditional fighting game with the real-life complexity of sport. The quality of UFC games have always been a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to quality, but EA Sports’ latest entry UFC 5 is unquestionably the best the sport has ever been in video games.
The way the 49ers and Jaguars have played the past few weeks are examples of why we love the unpredictability of the NFL.
Many were quick to crown the 49ers as the best team in the NFL. Now they’re on a two-game losing streak and many are questioning whether Brock Purdy is the right quarterback. But Purdy might not play Sunday vs. the Bengals because he was placed in the concussion protocol. If that’s the case, the 49ers are going to need their defense to step up after a poor performance in Minnesota.
