Roster spots are hard to come by in the WNBA, which makes securing a place in the 12-team league one of the most competitive feats in sports. Even first-round draft picks have difficulty sticking it out, with top talent often slipping through the cracks.
There is a maximum of 144 roster spots league-wide (12 per team), offering limited opportunity for players to find a home. WNBA expansion, a move that has the vocal support of many players and coaches, has been offered as a solution to these heartbreaking cuts, adding more spots to a cutthroat league.
This is just too cute.

J.J. Watt could be heading to the broadcast booth.

Watt recently retired from the NFL after 12 seasons. He was a five-time Pro Bowler and a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
Michael Malone is 51 years old and has coached over 700 NBA games yet appears to have just now realized that the national media is obsessed with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Denver Nuggets head coach took time during his postgame press conference on Thursday night to complain about the media and looked rather foolish doing so.
The Nuggets took a 2-0 series lead in the Western Conference Finals on Thursday night with their 108-103 win over the Lakers. But Malone’s mind was still focused on the reaction to Denver’s win in Game 1 two days earlier.

Rapper Lil Wayne offered a very interesting reaction to Ja Morant’s latest issues.
The Memphis Grizzlies guard is in seriously hot water after flashing a gun on an IG stream after already having served an eight game suspension for a gun incident. He’s almost certainly going to now serve an incredibly lengthy suspension.
It seems like Morant just can’t stay out of his way. One of the major reactions to his issues is the claim the talented NBA player is simply playing out a thug fantasy.
I wrote an entire piece breaking down how gun owners should reject his fantasy.
If you’re going to get some sage advice from someone as you’re about to start your career as an NFL quarterback, you could do a lot worse than Tom Brady.
The GOAT took some time to have lunch with incoming rookie QBs Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, Anthony Richardson, and Will Levis.
The lunch was hosted by Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin, who welcomed the rookie QBs, Brady, and rapper Travis Scott to his home in Los Angeles.
The Maple Leafs announced that the team and general manager Kyle Dubas have parted ways after 10 years.
“Kyle fostered a great culture within our dressing room and staff, and consistently pushed to make our team better season over season,” Toronto president Brendan Shanahan said in a statement. “We wish Kyle and his family the best moving forward.”
Dubas has been with the Maple Leafs since 2014, first as assistant general manager and GM of the Toronto Marlies AHL team, then as general manager after the team let Lou Lamoriello go in 2018.

Could Sergio Pérez benefit from this week’s cancellation?
Could the cancellation of the 2023 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix play a role in deciding the Drivers’ Championship?
The main story of the 2023 Formula 1 season has been the dominance of Red Bull. Either Max Verstappen or Sergio Pérez has won every single Grand Prix this season, pushing the Bulls to the top of the Constructors’ standings in convincing fashion.
