Being an umpire is hard. How do I know that? I umpire high school baseball in Connecticut. Am I looking for some praise or to be called a hero? Well, kinda. But more importantly, it serves as important context for the story of Jim Palmer crushing MLB umpire Vic Carapazza after ejecting Baltimore’s Ramón Urías.
Carapazza rang up Urías on a pitch that looked to be off-the-plate and then after Urías flung his helmet and batting gloves, Carapazza tossed him from the game.

At first, it appeared that Aaron Rodgers to the Jets was a “done deal.” New York needed a QB; the Green Bay Packers were no longer invested in Rodgers; and the mushroom man himself wanted out of GB.
Then momentum halted as talks stalled for weeks. Reports stated that the Jets reportedly balked at the Green Bay Packers’ trade demands when it comes to trade compensation.

Nick Saban one day could forget more national championships than most coaches have won.
He has won a college football record seven national championships, starting with one at LSU in the 2003 season at age 52. He has won six since coming to Alabama before the 2007 season. There was another one in his 50s in 2009 and five in his 60s in 2011, ’12, ’15, ’17 and ’20. He has also lost the national championship game three times in the 2016, ’18 and ’21 seasons, so he could have double figures.
Grizzlies forward Dillon Brooks revealed what Lakers star LeBron James said to him ahead of Game 3 in their teams’ first-round playoff series.
The pair was on the court during warmups at Crypto.com Arena when James approached Brooks for a brief chat on Saturday. Brooks appeared to be smiling at whatever James was saying before shaking his head and responding as the 38-year-old began to walk away.
On the heels of his ejection from Game 3, Brooks indicated on Sunday that James informed him of his birthday, via ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.
“He just told me his birthday,” Brooks said.
Former Warriors player Harrison Barnes had a chance to win the game at the buzzer for the Kings but he missed as Golden State survived to tie the series 2-2.
Hall of Fame coach Phil Jackson made headlines over the weekend when he revealed he hasn’t watched the NBA in years, after what he views as the league taking an overly-political stance during the “bubble” 2020 season at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. His comments drew some raised eyebrows within basketball circles—and one high-profile former player didn’t hold back when asked his thoughts on the matter.
One-half of the Splash Brothers was at it again on Sunday against the Kings.
On Saturday, Hall of Fame basketball coach Phil Jackson made headlines when he said he stopped watching the NBA because it became too political. That’s reasonable commentary since many Americans did exactly the same thing. But ESPN’s Jalen Rose is very mad at Jackson.
Why? Because Jalen Rose agrees with the NBA’s political messaging. So, if someone goes against that, they’re … ready for it? Racist.
“[The NBA] was trying to cater to an audience or trying to bring a certain audience to the game, and they didn’t know it was turning other people off,” Jackson said.
It’s been a long time since there was this much excitement at Madison Square Garden over a basketball game. The Knicks’ big Game 4 victory over the Cavaliers on Sunday prompted a huge eruption from New York’s fanbase and the celebration didn’t stop inside the arena.
Knicks fans spilled onto the Manhattan streets after the 102–93 win and completely shut down traffic. Chants of “Knicks in five” can be heard along with some “f— Trae Young” chants for good measure.
