Giannis Antetokounmpo exited the Bucks’ playoff clash against the Heat in the first half on Sunday and did not return to the game. Milwaukee’s MVP hopeful suffered a lower back injury while absorbing contact from Kevin Love, who was attempting to take a charge, at the rim.
Despite initially remaining in the game, Antetokounmpo was seen heading to the locker room with the medical staff shortly before the end of the first quarter.
After the loss, Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer indicated the team is going to monitor Antetokounmpo and see how he feels on Monday.
Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant ran off the court holding his right hand during Sunday’s Game 1 to the Los Angeles Lakers, but Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins told reporters that X-rays came back negative, and that the club is “taking it one day at a time.
Austin Reaves was one of the main catalysts behind the Lakers’ Game 1 win against the Grizzlies in their first-round playoff series. The second-year breakout star dropped 23 points as Los Angeles stole a victory on the road, and he drew some major praise from teammates after the game, including LeBron James.
Speaking on Reaves’s breakout season, James indicated to reporters after Sunday’s win that he’s not surprised by the 24-year-old’s performances.
“I knew from the first practice… that he wasn’t going to be a two-way player for long,” James said.
Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo was ruled out for the remainder of Game 1 against the Heat with a lower back contusion, the team announced.
Lakers guard Austin Reaves has had a breakout campaign this season, and his talents were one of the main reasons why Los Angeles pulled out a 128–112 win over the Grizzlies in Game 1 of the first round in the 2023 NBA playoffs on Sunday.
Reaves showed out in the fourth quarter specifically, scoring 14 points then after tallying just nine points combined in the three quarters prior. He finished the game with 23 points, four assists and three rebounds.
His late heroics prompted Reaves to chant “I’m him!” to the Lakers bench.
Milwaukee may be screwed after this injury.
The Bucks are in danger of dropping Game 1 of their Eastern Conference Round 1 matchup against the Miami Heat after losing superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. The “Greek Freak” left Sunday’s game early: heading back to the locker room in the first quarter after suffering an apparent back injury.

It was a “worst-case” scenario for Milwaukee.
Giannis, a two-time MVP, landed flat on his back after going for a layup and crashing with the Heat’s Kevin Love.
In a heavyweight battle between two of the best golfers in the world, Matt Fitzpatrick outlasted Jordan Spieth to win the RBC Heritage.
Fitzpatrick and Spieth entered the final round as two of parts of the final group trio along with Patrick Cantlay.
Fitzpatrick entered Sunday’s round with a one-shot lead over Cantlay and a two-shot lead over Spieth. And while it seemed for a while that Spieth and Cantlay would be the ones dueling, Fitzpatrick emerged late to force a playoff.
Heat guard Tyler Herro broke his right hand during Game 1 of Miami’s first-round playoff series against the Bucks, the team announced on Sunday evening.
Herro appeared to suffer the injury diving for a loose ball with just under a minute left in the first half and the Heat leading Milwaukee 64–52. He exited the game shortly thereafter, finding time to put up a three-point shot with the injured hand.
The injury came shortly after Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo exited the contest and was ruled out with a lower back contusion.
Herro, 23, is in his fourth year with Miami.
Grizzlies star Ja Morant sustained a hand injury in the fourth quarter of his team’s 128–112 Game 1 loss to the Lakers.
Now, his status for Game 2 could be up in the air.
Speaking to reporters after Memphis’ loss on Monday, Morant indicated that his availability for Game 2 is “in jeopardy,” according to ESPN’s Tim McMahon. Morant revealed that he’s dealing with considerable pain, to the extent that he’s not even able to “undo a balled-up pair of socks.”
“Feels like it’s one thing after another,” Morant said.
