Northwestern University president Michael Schill may be reading The Daily Northwestern more often now, if he was not already.
It’s just a student newspaper on the campus in Evanston, Illinois, near Chicago. Most of the reporters, writers and editors are undergraduates. Teenagers. But it’s a damn good paper – one of the best college student newspapers in the nation.

Despite firing head coach Pat Fitzgerald on Monday, Northwestern is expected to retain the rest of its football coaching and support staff, ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg reports. According to Rittenberg, athletic director Derrick Gragg, who had been away from campus, returned Tuesday to meet with players and coaches about the decisions.
Last week, Northwestern initially suspended Fitzgerald for two weeks following an investigation into hazing within the football program.

Longtime surfer Mikala Jones has died at age 44 after a surfing accident in Indonesia on Sunday.
His father, John Jones, told The Associated Press that his son’s surfboard fin cut his femoral artery while surfing off the Mentawai Islands on Sunday.
“He was a humble artist,” the elder Jones said. “His pictures were incredible.”
Jones is most-known for his photos and videos of him riding waves, most of which are from angles that show him inside of the waves.
