As the college basketball season comes to a close, it’s tournament time. Not only is March Madness underway for both the men and women, as are the D-II, D-III, NIT, CBI and NAIA Tournaments.
For the athletes, not only does tournament season mean travel, it also means swag. The extent of that swag, though, varies by level of play.

Antoine Davis has ended his pursuit of “Pistol” Pete Maravich’s NCAA scoring record. While it looked like Davis’ college career was over when the College Basketball Invitational did not extend an invitation to the Titans, he held out hope until Monday that he would get another chance to play, possibly in an inaugural College Hoops Postseason 8. The CBI, which started Saturday, posted pictures on its Twitter account of Maravich and Davis shortly after Detroit Mercy lost at Youngstown State and had talks with the school about a potential invitation.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is expected to receive a multiyear contract extension at next week’s NFL owners meetings in Phoenix, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday.
Schefter’s sources told him that the extension will be worth three years. Two of Goodell’s previous contracts were for three years as well.
Goodell took over the commissioner role in 2006, replacing Paul Tagliabue. Since then, his extensions came in ’09, ’12 and ’17.
Hallelujah. The greatest development in St. John’s University’s basketball since the Lou Carnesecca days commenced on Monday when the Johnnies hired Rick Pitino to be their next head coach.
As a St. John’s alumnus, I almost cried when the news broke. I spent roughly $120,000 to go to St. John’s and I could care less about Pitino’s sketchy past.

Notre Dame men’s lacrosse is the No. 1 team in the country at 6-0 after dismantling Michigan on Saturday. The Fighting Irish not only have the best team, but also the best tradition.

Iona coach Rick Pitino has agreed on a six-year deal to become St. John’s coach, sources told ESPN on Monday.
The former Louisville and Iona coach will be hungry for another shot at the Big Dance next year as he takes over with the Red Storm.

The 70-year-old Hall of Fame coach is reportedly taking over at St. John’s, six seasons after his controversial ouster at Louisville due to the program’s involvement in the FBI investigation into college basketball recruiting. Pitino’s deal is for six years, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Pete Thamel, though he said over the weekend he hopes to coach potentially for up to 12 years.
The former Texans tight end could become one of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo’s key targets next season.
The Raiders are poised to sign tight end OJ Howard away from the Texans, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Monday.
Howard will try to replace Darren Waller, the star tight end the Raiders traded to the Giants last week. Waller was the Raiders’ starting tight end for the past three seasons, although injuries limited him to nine games last season.
Howard is likely to become a key target for new Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
