The United States was always going to have a great pro basketball league, but it didn’t have to be the WNBA, or at least WNBA history didn’t have to unfold exactly as it did. When the WNBA began play in the late 1990s, there already existed another (and many said better) women’s pro basketball association in the US: the American Basketball League. The ABL lacked major corporate backing and huge sponsorship deals, but it had a superior pool of talent, relatively high salaries, and superior benefits for its players.
Champions League: The best XI of matchday one featuring Mbodji
Youssoupha Mbodji
UEFA has just unveiled the Team of the Week for the opening round of the Champions League group stage. Senegalese star Youssoupha Mbodji has earned his place among the best performers.
The first matchday of the Champions League delivered its verdict this week. On Friday, UEFA announced its traditional Team of the Week, spotlighting the eleven standout players. Among them, of course, is Senegal’s Youssoupha Mbodji.
🚨 UEFA reveals Champions League team of the week, French star recognised
UEFA unveiled its Team of the Week in the Champions League this Thursday, after a third day full of twists and turns.
Among the eleven selected players, a Frenchman stands out: Marcus Thuram, a decisive double scorer with Inter. Olympique de Marseille is also represented thanks to Gerónimo Rulli’s great performance in goal.
Alongside these familiar faces from Ligue 1, stars like Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford complete a lineup that combines efficiency, spectacle, and surprises.
Alejandro Garnacho set for Old Trafford return with Chelsea
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Alejandro Garnacho (21) is “ready to start” against former club Manchester United on Saturday, in what promises to be a charged return to Old Trafford.
The 21-year-old winger, signed by Chelsea for £40m in August, has so far featured only as a substitute under Maresca. But speaking ahead of the weekend’s fixture, he suggested the Argentina international is now prepared for a starting role.
Garnacho’s departure from United was far from seamless.
The 2025-26 NBA season is quickly approaching. We are less than a month away from the Washington Wizards’ first preseason game at home against the Toronto Raptors on Oct. 12 and just a little over one month away from their first regular season game on the road against the Milwaukee Bucks on Oct. 22.
But some teams: the Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, New Orleans Pelicans and Phoenix Suns may start media days or reporting days as early as Sept. 23 and training camps could begin as early as Sept. 24.
The Brooklyn Nets will be opening training camp next week as they get ready to begin a preseason slate that will see them play in China for two games. Brooklyn will have some tough decisions to make ahead of camp starting, but it seems like the Nets are getting creative with ways to get compliant with the salary cap prior to the regular season beginning.
The Nets announced on Friday that they have waived guard/forward D’Andre Davis one day after signing him to a partially-guaranteed contract, according to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.
The most inconsequential game of Thursday night’s matchup between the Bills and the Dolphins has proven to be very consequential to a lot of bettors’ wallets.
With just 11 seconds on the clock, Buffalo had a 10-point lead on Miami and just needed the clock to hit zero for it to count as an official win. The Dolphins snapped the ball for one last play, and Malik Washington caught a pass and ran 14 yards to pad his stats a bit.
But was it a pass, or a run? Here’s the play. I’ll let you be the judge.
To me, that could go either way, but I’ll say it’s a pass.
