When NFL legend Tom Brady retired at the end of last season, the Buccaneers acted quickly, signing veteran Baker Mayfield to add to the quarterback room as the presumed heir apparent to Brady under center.
Tampa Bay had former Florida quarterback Kyle Trask on the roster, after using a second round pick on him in the 2021 NFL draft. Now, it appears that not only is Trask pushing Mayfield to make the quarterback competition interesting, but he could ultimately win the job.

Contenders load up
As expected, there was plenty of action at the MLB trade deadline yesterday. Here are a few of the most notable moves.
Minnesota Twins closer Jhoan Duran has some of the nastiest stuff in all of Major League Baseball, which is saying a lot because there are just so many pitchers throwing so many filthy pitches these days.
Duran left fans in awe again Tuesday night when he threw a 101-mph splinker (which is a combined splitter and sinker) that had a ridiculous amount of movement and left Cardinals outfielder Jordan Walker walking back to the dugout after swinging and missing for strike three.

Keeping tabs on every bit of F1 drama this silly season
We have reached the most fascinating part of the Formula 1 calendar.
“Silly season.”
With the teams on hiatus until the end of August, the days and weeks ahead will be filled with rampant speculation about driver lineups, new contracts, team principals moving, and more personnel decisions.
In an effort to keep you updated throughout silly season, we’ll be tracking all the rumors for you right here.
The NFL’s new hats stink
The New Era/NFL alliance has very quietly been a disaster for the NFL. None of the hats stand out as super good, but there are a whole bunch of hats that can make an argument for the worst hat that the NFL has ever created.
However, one set of hats might’ve stolen the top spot, and entered the pantheon of shitty hats you want to wear while looking as dopey as ever. The NFL and New Era collaborated once again on new hats players will wear on the sideline, and boy are they stupid.

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott sported his non-contact red jersey in training camp practice on Tuesday, which means he shouldn’t be hit in any capacity during drills.
Standout linebacker Micah Parsons missed that memo, as he broke through the offensive line and came in low on Prescott as he released a pass during 11-on-11 drills.
Prescott was O.K., avoiding any injury from the hit. However, the unexpected play during practice that could have led to serious injury to Prescott had Cowboys fans feeling pretty uneasy when the video was released on social media.
This might be the worst 100m you’ll ever see.
It’s not often that a race at the World University Games goes viral, but something very special happened in China when Somalia’s Nasri Ali Abukar stepped to the blocks for a heat in the women’s 100m.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports should step down. It’s disheartening to witness such an incompetent government. How could they select an untrained girl to represent Somalia in running? It’s truly shocking and reflects poorly on our country internationally. pic.twitter.
Rams star wide receiver Cooper Kupp underwent an MRI on his hamstring and he could return to scrimmage in “a couple of weeks,” according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Kupp left his team’s Tuesday practice early after suffering the injury toward the end of the day.
It’s not ideal, but Kupp could return to the start of his team’s season if only absent for a couple of weeks. Los Angeles’s season kicks off Sept. 10 against the Seahawks.

The quarterbacks you should know ahead of the 2023 college football season
The calendar has officially flipped to August, which means a few very important things.
First, football is back. The NFL has its annual Hall of Fame Game this weekend, and down a level, college football’s “Week 0” is just a few short weeks away.
Second, that means we are about to start yelling about draft quarterbacks again.
Draft season is always present, and here at SB Nation we are no different.
Back in April, the night after WrestleMania 39, Seth Rollins appeared on Monday Night Raw, but things didn’t go as planned.
Rollins came out for his segment, hit the ring, but then was caught having an animated discussion with someone from the production crew before heading back to the locker room.
Nothing confirmed but Seth Rollins’ segment may have been changed when he was in the ring. pic.twitter.
