Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy recently said the team hasn’t told him he’s the starting quarterback. The team is nevertheless hoping that’s what he’ll be.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, G.M. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said that McCarthy as the starter is “the outcome we want” and “the outcome we’re headed towards,”
“At every checkpoint, whether it’s been the draft process or practice until the injury and really the offseason now, he’s met the bar,” Adofo-Mensah said, via Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — Colorado State hired Niko Medved’s top assistant to replace him as basketball coach following a quick 24-hour search.
Ali Farokhmanesh, 36, was promoted Wednesday evening after Medved left Fort Collins earlier this week to coach at his alma mater, Minnesota.
The hire provides some continuity for a program that was 143-85 under Medved and posted three 25-win seasons in the last four years.

The Oklahoma softball team played one of its most interesting games of the season Wednesday night.
The Sooners still just have a single loss after knocking off Wichita State, 19-16, in a wild one. OU never trailed, but things were never comfortable, either, despite Oklahoma knocking in eight runs in the top of the first inning and chasing WSU starter Alex Aguilar before she finished the frame.
OU sent 11 batters to the plate and scored on three singles, a groundout, a triple, and a wild pitch. The Sooners added six more runs over the next two innings.

Most of the Tennessee Titans’ braintrust was back in Nashville on Wednesday continuing their pre-draft preparations. This includes hosting some prospects for a Top 30 visit. 
According to a social media post, the Titans hosted Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson at their facility on Wednesday.

OU softball survived a combined 35-run midweek slugfest on Wednesday night in Wichita, Kansas.
The No. 2-ranked Soonersdefeated Wichita State 19-16 Wednesday night in front of a Shockers record crowd of 1,245 fans. OU previously defeated the Shockers 8-1 on Feb. 23.
Wichita State’s 16 runs scored is the most the Sooners have surrendered since the 2019 Women’s College World Series when they gave up 16 against UCLA.
Maya Bland, Gabbie Garcia and Nelly McEnroe-Marinas combined for nine hits and eight RBIs in the win. Garcia, Isabela Emerling and Kasidi Pickering each hit home runs.

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets (23-50) were hoping to end their losing streak against one of the teams that they were favored to beat in the Toronto Raptors (26-47) as this season comes to a close. However, Brooklyn ran into a Toronto team that was looking to continue winning games as they head into next season with a squad that they hope can make a playoff appearance.
The Nets lost to the Raptors 116-86 in a game that was essentially decided after the first quarter where Brooklyn trailed Toronto 32-18 after the first 12 minutes.
