The San Francisco Giants recently became the first Major League Baseball team to interview a woman, Alyssa Nakken, for their managerial job.
Nakken has served as an assistant coach for the Giants since 2020, becoming the first woman to coach on the field in 2022 after subbing in as a first base coach. While the team has yet to announce how close they are to making a decision as to who will replace former manager Gabe Kapler, there’s one former big leaguer who doesn’t agree with what the organization is doing.

PHILADELPHIA — Plenty of people have strolled through one of the Foot Lockers at the various shopping malls dotting Phoenix and its environs, and many of those patrons have bought Diamondbacks shorts, because they support the team or just think the shorts look cool or both. But only one of those customers plays second base for the Diamondbacks.
“They’re good ones,” says Ketel Marte, who wore them at the ballpark and immediately started getting requests from his teammates. Finally, he went back to the mall and bought the whole rack.
Problems are piling on in Indianapolis as the Colts lose a critical player on defense. The NFL has suspended nose tackle Grover Stewart for six games for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policies.

Stewart issued an apology on Tuesday.
“I want to apologize to the National Football League, the Colts organization, my teammates, our fans, and my family. I was surprised and disappointed to learn I had violated the policy.
Cowboys star Micah Parsons didn’t speak to the media after the win on Monday night against the Chargers, but he sounded off two days later on his podcast, The Edge.
During the latest episode of his podcast, Parsons blasted the media for its treatment of Dallas, and more specifically, quarterback Dak Prescott.
Parsons took issue with how the media treats Prescott and the Cowboys after a game compared to their treatment of the Eagles, saying that Dallas is more harshly criticized than its division rivals.
Prior to Game 2 of the National League Championship Series Arizona starting pitcher Merrill Kelly offered a challenge to Phillies fans.
While speaking with reporters on Tuesday Kelly cast doubt that Citizens Bank Park would be the loudest ballpark he’s ever played in.
“… And then going into the WBC game, I think that—I haven’t obviously heard this place on the field, but I’d be very surprised if it trumped that Venezuela game down in Miami,” said Kelly.
The New York Jets have fared surprisingly well without star quarterback Aaron Rodgers through the first six games of the season.
Despite losing him early in the first quarter of his first game, the Jets have now won two in a row and sit 3-3 behind the Bills and surprising Miami Dolphins. Rodgers has publicly discussed wanting to make an unlikely return this season, even ditching his crutches after just a few weeks after his surgery.
Stephen A. Smith is not on board the Tua Tagovailoa hype train.
On Tuesday’s edition of ESPN’s First Take, the hosts discussed whether Tua is the clear-cut NFL MVP so far. And Smith is not convinced.
Sure, the Miami Dolphins quarterback is leading the league in passing yards, passing touchdowns, passer rating (of starting QBs) and passing first downs. But according to Smith, you can attribute all of Tagovailoa’s success to his WR1.
“I don’t know if y’all watching Miami enough,” Smith said. “All of these passes ain’t for 19, 20, 30, 40 yards.
49ers star Christian McCaffrey avoided a long-term injury and, along with Trent Williams and Deebo Samuel, has a chance to play Monday night vs. the Vikings, sources said.
