Monday night’s NCAA men’s basketball national championship ratings are in.
The UConn Huskies men’s team victory over San Diego State University drew approximately 14.6 million viewers. Meanwhile, Sunday afternoon’s women’s final drew an astounding 9.9 million viewers, peaking at 12.6 million at one point. That easily shattered its previous high of 5.68 million (since the ESPN era began in 1996).
But the story isn’t that the men defeated the women in the rating; it’s that a relatively bad NCAA men’s final still had more viewers than the NBA Finals from the past three seasons.

Padres star Manny Machado was called out on Tuesday after a pitch clock violation resulted in a third strike in his first at-bat against the Diamondbacks. 
The third baseman was livid with the decision from home plate umpire Ron Kulpa, who proceeded to eject him from the game after a frustrated Machado could be seen arguing the decision.
Padres manager Bob Melvin came out to plead his case alongside Machado, but after an extended and animated conversation, Kulpa sent Melvin packing with an early ejection, too.

Former Cardinals vice president Terry McDonough has accused owner Michael Bidwill of cheating, harassment and discrimination in an arbitration claim he filed with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Tuesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.
McDonough, who spent 10 years with the team beginning in 2013, argues in the claim that Bidwill forced him and former Cardinals coach Steve Wilks to use burner phones to communicate with then general manager Steve Keim while Keim was suspended in ’18 by the team after getting arrested for a DUI.

Hue Jackson, who previously went a combined 11-44-1 as head coach of the Raiders and Browns, is entering his second full year in north Louisiana. A unique member of the college football universe is calling it quits.
Simon Fraser—the only Canadian school in the NCAA—is dropping football, according to a Tuesday morning statement from the university. The Red Leafs had played football in Division II since 2010—first in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, and then in the Lone Star Conference in ’22.
“With the recent announcement that the team has not been invited to continue in the Lone Star Conference, we do not have a conference to play in beginning in 2024.
