After his latest rough outing on Saturday, June 14, relief pitcher John Brebbia is being designated for assignment, the Detroit Tigers announced on Sunday, June 15.
Right-handed pitcher Tyler Owens has been called up from Triple-A Toledo to take Brebbia’s place on the active roster.
Signed in February to a one-year, $2.25 million deal, the 35-year-old Brebbia was effective early on for Detroit, allowing three hits and one earned run over his first eight appearances from March 27 to April 18.

Lexington Catholic High School senior pitcher Abby Hammond has been named 2025 Miss Softball by the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association.
Hammond posted a 14-7 record and 0.97 ERA while striking out 196 batters over 136 2/3 innings. She also batted .371 with seven home runs and 14 RBIs.
A University of Kentucky signee, Hammond posted a career record of 118-29 in five seasons on the Lexington Catholic varsity team, finishing with 1,328 strikeouts. She was named Gatorade Kentucky Player of the Year as a freshman and a junior.
