The NFL will have a new yearly player award category in 2025. Per multiple reports, there is an award for offensive linemen. Along with such awards as Most Valuable Player and Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, the NFL will now add Protector of the Year.

Brock Purdy is a wealthy man.
After playing on a significant discount for the first three seasons of his NFL career, the starting San Francisco 49ers quarterback has a five-year, $265 million contract extension that should set him and his family quite comfortably for life.
Purdy’s $53 million annual salary represents a raise of more than $52 million per year over his four-year, $3.7 million rookie contract he signed as the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
But it’s not the richest contract in the NFL. Seven NFL quarterbacks boast higher annual salaries.

It was a solid year for the Florida Gators and head coach Billy Napier, compiling an 8-5 record, marking their first winning season since 2020 and defeating the Tulane Green Wave 33-8 in the Gasparilla Bowl.
One of the biggest storylines throughout their season was the emergence of true freshman quarterback DJ Lagway, who, unfortunately, throughout this offseason, has been battling a lower-body and shoulder injury.
PHILADELPHIA — Jean Segura, a two-time All-Star infielder who hit .281 in a 12-year major league career with six teams, announced his retirement.
Segura’s announcement was made on social media Wednesday by his agent, CAA Sports, and the Philadelphia Phillies, for whom he played from 2019-22.
The 35-year-old Segura last played in the major leagues in 2023, with the Miami Marlins.
He was an All-Star in 2013 with the Milwaukee Brewers and 2018 with the Seattle Mariners. Segura led the National League with 203 hits in 2016, while with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
For the first quarter of the 2024 NFL season, the Las Vegas Raiders were a .500 team. However, things fell apart quickly under head coach Antonio Pierce, as the team only won two more games for the rest of the season and never beat a starting quarterback after Week 4.
Injuries were tough to overcome in the early going for the Raiders, especially on the defensive line, but things really fell apart when star defensive end Maxx Crosby sustained a slew of injuries.
Colts owner Jim Irsay, who had led the team since 1997 and presided over one of the storied franchise’s greatest eras, has died.
Jim Irsay grew up on the Indianapolis Colts, working in multiple departments, including as the general manager at age 24, so news of his passing on Wednesday at the age of 65 touches every facet of the organization on a personal level.
The club announced Irsay’s death on social media and in a press release:
Irsay, who has battled multiple health concerns for years, apparently died peacefully – in his sleep.
“We are devastated to announce our beloved Owner & CEO, Jim Irsay, passed away peacefully in his sleep this afternoon,” Colts COO Pete Ward said in a statement.
