When several members of the New York Yankees debuted the so-called “torpedo bat” in the first week of the 2025 season, they dominated the discussion around baseball for days on end. 
Commentators, broadcasters, fans…many, if not most people around the game were convinced that the torpedo bats would make hitting easier than it’d ever been. Initially, it seemed like it would. TORONTO (AP) — Alan Roden hit his first career home run, Anthony Santander also connected and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Atlanta Braves 6-3 on Tuesday night.
The Blue Jays hit more than one home run in a game for the first time this season. Toronto has 11 homers in 18 games. Their opponents have 24.
Kevin Gausman (2-1) struck out six over six innings to win for the first time in three starts. Gausman allowed two runs and six hits, including two home runs.
Austin Riley, Matt Olson and Ozzie Albies all hit solo homers but the Braves failed to win consecutive games.

NEW YORK (AP) — Jasson Domínguez went 3 for 3 with a three-run double that put the New York Yankees ahead in the sixth inning of a 4-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.
Max Fried (3-0) struck out seven in 6 2/3 innings and the Yankees erased a 2-0 deficit with a four-run sixth aided by three straight two-out walks. New York will go for a three-game sweep Wednesday in a rematch of an AL Division Series won by the Yankees over the Royals in four games last October.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Anthony Stolarz stopped 35 shots for his third consecutive shut out in Buffalo, and the Toronto Maple Leafs clinched their first Atlantic Division title with a 4-0 win over the Sabres on Tuesday night.
Steven Lorentz scored the go-ahead goal on a one-timer with 5:45 left in the second period. Mitch Marner set a career-high with 100 points by scoring with 4:21 left in regulation, Auston Matthews’ empty-net goal was the 400th in his career and Nicholas Robertson also scored.

The No. 2 Arkansas Razorbacks (33-5, 12-3 SEC) pummeled the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions (8-27, 6-6 SWAC) in a 13-3 eight-inning win Tuesday evening at Baum-Walker Stadium in Fayetteville.
Arkansas’ offense started off excellent in the midweek matchup but cooled off in the later innings, as it finished 18-for-40 at the plate with more home runs (four) than strikeouts (three). Wehiwa and Kuhio Aloy, Logan Maxwell, Cam Kozeal and Reese Robinett (first hits of the season, three doubles) all notched at least two hits in the game.

This year, buzz surfaced in the fallout of Phoenix Suns coach Mike Budenholzer’s dismissal, reportedly involving Suns Big 3 player Bradley Beal.

Max Verstappen and Red Bull are going to be happy that they’re back to racing this week in Saudi Arabia after a Bahrain Grand Prix last weekend that Verstappen himself called a “catastrophe.”
According to the Associated Press, that’s how the four-time world champ described the race in which he and teammate Yuki Tsunoda both managed to scrounge up a few points by finishing P6 and P9, respectively, but were virtually non-factors from the moment the lights went out.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jackie Robinson was the first to break baseball’s color barrier with the Brooklyn Dodgers 78 years ago Tuesday. His legacy continues to inspire people inside the major leagues — and outside, too.
Players and staff from the Dodgers, including Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and rookie Roki Sasaki, and the Colorado Rockies surrounded Robinson’s statue in Centerfield Plaza hours before game time in Los Angeles on Jackie Robinson Day around the major leagues.
They were joined by Basketball Hall of Fame player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who turns 78 on Wednesday.

West Virginia’s offense was a shell of its recent self for most of Tuesday night on the road against in-state rival Marshall.
That was until the Mountaineers scored two runs in the seventh to tie the game, before scoring the go-ahead in the ninth, on a straight steal of home by Chase Swain helped lead West Virginia to a 5-4 win from Jack Cook Field in Huntington, W.Va.
The Mountaineers put the go-ahead run on base to start the ninth inning as Swain walked. He would then advance to second on a sac-bunt before advancing to third on a dropped third strike.
