After an uncharacteristically down season, Alabama is back. At least according to EA Sports’ College Football 26 video game.
Entering their second post-Nick Saban season, the Crimson Tide appear poised for a bounce-back. Whether the return to glory translates to the field remains to be seen. Virtually, it’s already a done deal.
On Friday, EA Sports released College Football 26’s team ratings, and, in a surprise, the Crimson Tide received top billing.
Settle down boys.

Logan Paul is speaking out and defending himself after getting criticized for refusing to sign an autograph for a fan earlier this week.
The outspoken older Paul brother, who has an opinion about everything, recently made headlines after refusing to sign a fan’s trading card of the WWE wrestler. At the time, wrestling fans weren’t sure if Logan was just portraying his “bad guy” persona, or if he just didn’t want to sign the fan’s merchandise for whatever reason.

For the second time this week, Penn State made some draft history. Within days of having its first NBA first-round draft pick, the Nittany Lions now have the first NHL draft first-round pick in draft history. The hockey program’s latest bit of history was achieved Friday when the Columbus Blue Jackets selected Penn State’s Jackson Smith with the 14th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
There is a slight caveat to this piece of history, of course. Smith.
Tyler Shough was the highest-drafted quarterback selected by the New Orleans Saints since Archie Manning was the second overall choice in the 1971 NFL draft. In fact, Manning and Shough were the only two quarterbacks ever drafted by the Saints in Rounds 1 or 2 in their 59-year history. Garrett Grayson, in 2015, was the only quarterback that New Orleans ever drafted in the third round. Danny Wuerffel, a Round 4 choice and 99th overall in 1997, is the only other quarterback the Saints have drafted in the top-100 selections.
Fresh off winning the eighth national championship in program history, LSU baseball went right back to work.
Head coach Jay Johnson worked the transfer portal during the title run and ramped up recruiting efforts in the days following his second championship in Baton Rouge.
The Tigers lose major contributors from the 2025 squad, including NCAA strikeouts leader Kade Anderson, as well as everyday infielders Daniel Dickinson and Jared Jones. The trio, along with right-handed pitcher Anthony Eyanson, are off the MLB Draft.
Following another exciting softball season in the Lone Star State, 12 players from the Texas Panhandle have been selected to the Texas Sports Writers Association All-State teams.
The Amarillo area had another strong season on the diamond, with at least one team in each classification from 1A to 5A making a deep playoff run. Booker, West Texas, Bushland, Muleshoe and Amarillo High all reached the regional semifinals, while River Road and Dumas advanced to the regional finals.
Jared Verse of the Los Angeles Rams made his feelings about Philadelphia Eagles fans known in January telling Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times, “I hate Eagles fans. They’re so annoying. I hate Eagles fans.”
The Eagles and their fans got the last laugh days later when Philadelphia beat the Rams with a 28-22 victory to advance to the NFC Championship game. Verse would record four tackles, three for loss and two sacks in the defeat.
