OAKMONT, Pa. (AP) — Never mind that Rory McIlroy is finally a Masters champion and the first player in 25 years to join the exclusive list of players with the career Grand Slam. Or that Scottie Scheffler won the PGA Championship and reasserted himself as golf’s best player.
They are biggest stars in the game heading into the third major of the year. They might not be the main attraction. The one name that gets everyone’s attention at this U.S. Open: Oakmont.

Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson, in the midst of a quarterback battle with veteran Daniel Jones, has aggravated the right shoulder joint he injured in 2023 and will be sidelined for an undetermined length of time, coach Shane Steichen said Thursday.
The transfer portal has taketh from the Oklahoma Sooners since their season ended on Monday. Four players have entered the portal, but you can bet that the Sooners and Patty Gasso will be active to add talent to get Oklahoma back to the top of the sport.
Joining Chris Plank, the Voice of OU Softball on The Ref in Norman, Patty Gasso discussed what Oklahoma is going to be looking to accomplish in the transfer portal.
“Right now, I don’t have a lot to say about it,” Gasso said. “But you will see movement, and you will be happy with the movement that you’re seeing.
Russell Wilson’s job description with the New York Giants doesn’t say anything about being a mentor to rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. That doesn’t mean he won’t be one, naturally.

Social media has exploded on Thursday with (among other things) images of Aaron Rodgers in a Steelers uniform and a No. 12 jersey.
Don’t expect that to happen.
While Terry Bradshaw’s No. 12 isn’t officially retired, it’s unofficially retired. And the Steelers surely wouldn’t issue it to Rodgers without Bradshaw’s blessing.
Then there’s the question of whether Rodgers would even want to wear No. 12. Two years ago, former Jets quarterback Joe Namath was willing to let Rodgers wear No. 12 in New York. Rodgers declined.
CLEMSON — Clemson football and coach Dabo Swinney added their second defensive lineman in the 2026 recruiting class with the commitment of three-star JR Hardrick.
The 6-foot-6, 231-pounder from South Pittsburg High in Tennessee is rated the No. 26 player in the state by the 247Sports Composite rankings. Hardrick chose Clemson over Virginia, Mississippi State and Louisville. He announced his commitment on X on June 5.
Hardrick helped South Pittsburgh to a 12-4 record last season. He joins three-star Kameron Cody as Clemson’s two defensive lineman commitments.
It’s about time. Aaron Rodgers inevitably agreed to terms with the Pittsburgh Steelers following a long, drawn-out saga.
The Steelers almost appeared desperate as they waited an inordinate amount of time as the quarterback carousel churned, leaving Pittsburgh as the only viable option.
When Mason Rudolph was quarterback No. 1 on the depth chart, maybe desperation was warranted.
“There is no drop-dead date specifically in my mind, no,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told reporters at the NFL owners meeting.
