The Philadelphia 76ers were dealt a devastating blow on Thursday when their superstar center, Joel Embiid, was revealed to have torn the meniscus in his left knee.
For days now, 76ers fans have been holding their breath waiting for a recovery timeline. Now, they have it.
Embiid will most likely be out for six to eight weeks, according to a Tuesday afternoon report from Shams Charania of The Athletic.
“I’m told it’s likely going to be anywhere between six to eight weeks for any type of a return,” Charania said on the Takeoff with John Clark podcast.

Dallas and Milwaukee are interested in Andrew Wiggins, Golden State’s top available asset. Jake Fischer brings the latest trade chatter from around the league.
A federal judge in the Eastern District of Tennessee has denied a Temporary Restraining Order against the NCAA regarding NIL. This ruling now leaves both parties in the same place as they began, which is not being able to discuss NIL earnings with recruits before they sign with a school.
All of this stems from the Attorneys General for the State of Tennessee and Commonwealth of Virginia filing an antirsut lawsuit last week against the NCAA. Now, this will not effect both sides meeting in court next week on the 13th to argue for an injunction, but this could certainly set a precedent.
Matt Barnes needs help. Stat. The ex-NBA player dipped back into the headlines over the weekend, after intimidating a high school announcer during his son’s basketball game. He alleged that the high school senior told Barnes to “shut up,” prompting Barnes to get close and place a hand on the high schooler’s shoulder.

A prankster who thought it would be funny to delay the AFC Championship game by flying his drone into the stadium during the game is going to wish he was able to fly off on it.
According to court documents, the Department of Justice and the FBI are recommending FOUR YEARS in prison for a variety of infractions including violating the U.S. National Defense Airspace.
In the words of Ron Burdgundy, “Welp, that escalated quickly.”
On Jan. 28, 45-year-old Matthew Hebet piloted the drone over Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium when the Ravens hosted the Chiefs.
The health of Jim Irsay seems to be trending in the right direction. The Indianapolis Colts owner took to social media Tuesday — posting his first message since being hospitalized last month. It’s unclear whether he has been released from medical care.
“On the mend,” he wrote. “Grateful for all the messages of love and support.”
On Jan. 9, the Colts released a statement saying Irsay was undergoing treatment for a severe respiratory illness, but the organization has been tight-lipped about his health ever since.
Throughout football, 2024 has been The Year of the Retirement (or at least The Year of Stepping Away).
In a two-day span in January, Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, Alabama coach Nick Saban and New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick all left their posts. That left Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid—in his 25th year leading an NFL team—as one of the game’s last undisputed elder statesmen.
Asked about the prospect of retirement Tuesday ahead of Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, Reid deflected, referring to an anecdote he’d heard from his parents growing up.
Clayton Kershaw has reportedly made his decision on where he’ll play the 2024 season, and considering his public remarks in 2023, he’s somewhat surprisingly heading back to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
To say Kershaw ended the 2023 season on a down note would be a massive understatement. The 35-year-old future Hall of Famer started game one of the National League Division Series, getting lit up by the Arizona Diamondbacks to the tune of six runs on six hits, with no strikeouts and just one out recorded.
Charles Barkley expected the Kansas City Chiefs to lose the AFC divisional round to the Buffalo Bills, and then the AFC championship to the Baltimore Ravens.
Well, the NBA legend was wrong as the Chiefs won both games and will play in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.
When making his pick for the big game, Barkley decided to triple down on his take despite the Chiefs burning him the last two games.
