The San Francisco 49ers are in Las Vegas and set to practice at UNLV ahead of Super Bowl LVIII. But the team is concerned the playing surface isn’t up to par.
Sources told CBS Sports that 49ers staffers are not pleased with the field at UNLV, where the league designated the NFC champions to practice this week. Reportedly, the NFL laid natural grass on top of UNLV’s turf, and Niners’ personnel feel the grass is too soft for the team to practice on.

The Super Bowl is the single biggest betting event on the sports calendar and Las Vegas has long been a gambler’s paradise. The Big Game and Sin City are a match made in heaven — or at least in a Las Vegas chapel.
Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to make the pilgrimage to Las Vegas this week for Super Bowl LVIII.

LeBron James wore a towel with the Knicks’ logo on it after the Lakers’ win at Madison Square Garden over the weekend and ESPN’s Brian Windhorst is convinced James did so on purpose to send some sort of message.
According to Windhorst, we need to overlook the fact that James was dripping in sweat and may have just been using the towel to clean himself up during his postgame interview. The towel is supposedly a sign.

It’s early February, and just about everyone is losing with regularity. Not only are there no remaining undefeated teams, there are no remaining one-loss teams. And just three teams remain with two losses—the UConn Huskies, Purdue Boilermakers and Grand Canyon Antelopes. (The Minutes sees you out there in the desert, Antelopes.

After leaving Michigan to coach the Los Angeles Chargers, it appeared that Jim Harbaugh would bring on son Jay Harbaugh as a member of his new staff. Sources tell Sports Illustrated that the younger Harbaugh is in talks to join a pro staff on the West Coast, but it might not be under his father in L.A.
Harbaugh is in discussions with the Seattle Seahawks to fill the special teams coordinator job on Mike Macdonald’s staff, according to SI’s Albert Breer.

Hovland and Schauffele, two of the best golfers on the planet, have withdrawn from the People’s Tournament.
Viktor Hovland has decided to withdraw from the Waste Management Phoenix Open following a poor performance at Pebble Beach.
He tied for 55th at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, carding two rounds of even par 72 during the second and third rounds. He shot a 3-under 69 on day one at Spyglass Hill, and thus finished 14 strokes behind winner Wyndham Clark.

The Kansas City Royals and shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. agreed to a 11-year, $288.8 million contract extension, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported on Monday.
Witt has opt-outs after the seventh through 10th years of his 11-year contract. The contract also has a three-year club option, which would raise the deal to 14 years and $377.7 million.
This becomes the largest contract in Royals franchise history for the 23-year-old who’s entering his third year in the league.

Ahead of their Super Bowl LVIII matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs in Las Vegas, some San Francisco 49ers staffers are not pleased with the UNLV practice field, according to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports.
During an appearance Monday on The Pat McAfee Show, ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed the report and said that the team feels like it’s a “disadvantage.” He added that the team is slated to first practice on the field Monday at 3 p.m. ET but is already displeased with the conditions.

Despite his arrest over the weekend, Pat Mahomes Sr. will still be allowed to travel to Las Vegas to watch his son play in the Super Bowl.
Mahomes Sr. was arrested for driving while intoxicated late Saturday night in Smith County, Texas. This is at least the third DWI arrest for the father of the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback.
Judge James Meredith told TMZ Sports he didn’t impose a travel ban on Pat as part of his bond conditions. It makes you wonder if someone whose kid wasn’t a superstar NFL quarterback would get the same leniency after a third DWI.
