LeBron James hasn’t played for the Heat since 2014, but few NBA players were as proud as the Los Angeles Lakers superstar on Tuesday amid a historic night for Miami coach Erik Spoelstra.
As a man who’s used to breaking records, James, who’s in his 21st NBA season and sixth in L.A., fittingly shouted out Spoelstra, his coach for four seasons, moments after the news of Spoelstra’s record-breaking, eight-year extension with Miami.

Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale’s expected resignation from the New York Giants might be getting messy.
According to a report from Paul Schwartz at the New York Post, what might have been Martindale’s final hours in the Giants’ offices this offseason were pretty dramatic.
Per Schwartz, Martindale was frustrated with the decision of head coach Brian Daboll to fire outside linebackers coach Drew Wilkins, and his brother, defensive assistant Kevin Wilkins.

Bet big on the Tigers tonight.
Auburn basketball (12-2, 1-0 conference) showed off impressive range ahead of Tuesday night’s game against Texas A&M (9-5, 0-1).
Bruce Pearl’s team felt loose in pre-game warmups, tossing up a streak of half-court shots. Auburn fans saw it as a good omen for their SEC battle against the Aggies.
And if you’re A&M, there’s no way you’re watching this and not feeling a little nervous about the game.

Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra’s storied tenure is reportedly set to continue for the foreseeable future after both sides agreed to a lucrative extension on Tuesday.
Spoelstra, the Heat’s coach since 2008, inked an eight-year contract that will put him in line to become one of the NBA’s highest-paid coaches, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The exact details of the deal are unknown at this time, but the agreement will reportedly net Spoelstra “$120 million-plus” and will include the “most committed coaching money” in NBA history, per Wojnarowski.

The Chicago Bears head into April’s NFL Draft with the No. 1 and No. 9 picks in the first round.
Chicago owns the No. 1 selection this year after the Carolina Panthers traded their pick to the Bears in order to move up and draft Alabama quarterback Bryce Young No. 1 in 2023.
Armed with the top overall selection, speculation has commenced regarding whether the Bears will use the pick on one of the top quarterback prospects in this year’s class, or trade the pick in order to add assets and build around Justin Fields.

And then there were none.
On Tuesday night, Iowa State took down No. 2 Houston 57–53, delivering the Cougars their first loss of the season.
With the win, the Cyclones didn’t just take out an undefeated school—they took out the last remaining undefeated school in D-I men’s college basketball.
The victory came in front of a raucous home crowd at the Hilton Coliseum, with Iowa State needing every second of the game to secure victory.

The Minnesota Timberwolves took bench celebrations to a new level of embarrassing on Tuesday following a monster poster dunk from star forward Karl-Anthony Towns.
KAT’s massive jam came midway through the second quarter after he secured a pass from guard Mike Conley on a pick-and-roll. Towns then drove to the rim with purpose while being guarded by Orlando Magic forward Moritz Wagner before elevating and flushing a one-handed dunk with authority.

There is a new luxury experience heading to the Kentucky Derby.
Sports Illustrated and the Churchill Downs Racetrack announced a multiyear partnership on Tuesday for naming rights on a new luxury dining experience dubbed Club SI.
Club SI, located on the west side of the Paddock at Churchill Downs, will debut on opening night of derby week leading up to the annual Run for the Roses on May 4.

On Sunday, Matthew Stafford will make his return to Ford Field for the first time since becoming a Los Angeles Ram. But Detroit Lions fans don’t plan on giving their former QB a warm welcome.
In fact, they don’t even want to see his jersey in the stands.
One social media account, The Detroit Line, is urging Lions fans not to wear throwback Stafford jerseys to Sunday’s Wild Card game.
