The New York Yankees are rapidly becoming another example of the perils of spending money poorly.
The 2023 Major League Baseball season has been rife with expensive disappointments. Out west, the San Diego Padres have stumbled to a 44-48 start, despite investing heavily with free agents and trades.
In their own city, the New York Mets, with baseball’s highest payroll, have just a 13% chance of making the postseason.
Quietly, the Yankees have been struggling mightily themselves.
According to Fangraphs, their playoff odds have fallen below 50%, after peaking in April at 87%.

Throughout his 12-year NFL career, Andy Dalton has at times been seen as a quarterback who borderlines franchise QB status without being worthy of being named among the league’s elite passers.
Ask the new Panthers signee’s running back, though, and you’ll get a different picture.
While speaking on the Mac and Bone Podcast on WFNZ, new Carolina running back Miles Sanders expressed how he holds Dalton, who was brought in to mentor No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young, in high regards.
Just how high?
Think Canton, Ohio.

The clock seems to be ticking on designated hitter/pitcher Shohei Ohtani’s time with the Angels.
After six individually transcendent — yet conspicuously postseason-free — years in Orange County, the 2021 American League MVP will have a decision to make after this season. His contract is up, and many believe he will receive the largest contract in baseball history.
Before that, however, Los Angeles has to decide whether to move him at the deadline.

One of Andy Dalton’s new Carolina Panthers teammates had some good things to say about his new signal caller.
So, good that it sounds like it’s probably just lip service, but he still said it.
The teammate in question is Panthers running back Miles Sanders. He said that his new quarterback is a future hall of fame.
Sanders was pumping Dalton’s tires after the two did some work together during OTAs.
“These guys work, and that’s the main thing I’ve noticed in OTAs,” Sanders told WFNZ radio show Mac and Bone.

Rose Zhang, the 20-year-old phenom from Stanford, uncharacteristically struggled Friday, so much so that she missed the cut at the DANA Open.
Rose Zhang is used to dominating on the golf course.
Yet, during Friday’s second round of the DANA Open in Sylvania, Ohio, Zhang shot a 6-over 77 to miss the cut by two strokes.

The United States Olympic team has officially qualified its first athlete for the 2024 Summer Games in Paris, with 17-year-old swimmer Katie Grimes nabbing a coveted spot on Saturday.

The thrilling competition saw Grimes narrowly capture a bronze medal, and the last Olympic qualifying berth, with a time of 2:02:42.30 following an intense photo finish.
