Shubman Gill, the face of the Indian cricket team and the man appointed captain of both the Test and ODI sides, has clearly justified the BCCI’s decision. Since taking over the captaincy, Gill has transformed himself from a promising opener into one of India’s most dependable batters in the longer formats.
In less than a month, Shubman Gill has already scored three centuries across different formats.
He first struck a century against Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 on May 29, scoring at a strike rate of 196.23.

Bellamy’s Wales Commitment Dims Celtic and Burnley Hopes
Burnley have formally approached Craig Bellamy for their managerial vacancy – and that development lands directly in Celtic’s lap, given the Wales head coach has been discussed as a potential candidate at Parkhead for months.
According to reports, Burnley have identified Bellamy as a serious candidate to lead their Championship promotion push after parting with Scott Parker following relegation.
FROM CHIASSO TO PERTH
Next up: August 5th in Perth. AC Milan and Inter will face each other far from San Siro in a major occasion for Australia, but not an entirely new one for the rest of the world. Over the years, official and friendly Milano derbies played outside of Italy have taken place in four different countries: Switzerland, China, USA and Saudi Arabia. The first-ever derby played outside of Italy took place in Chiasso, Switzerland, on October 18th 1908, just a few months after Inter’s founding.
Austria coach Ralf Rangnick was highly amused by a small PR coup while Jamal Musiala will probably have to carry a roll of tape with him for the next few weeks.
The Germany star’s headphones are not made by a World Cup sponsor which means that he had to cover the clearly visible logo with tape in official tournament areas.
The zeal with which world governing body FIFA protects the exclusivity of its sponsors at the World Cup is causing more than just surprise. It is also prompting companies that are not among the official sponsors to come up with clever ideas.

The front pages of the sports press this June 20 are caught between competitive tension and boardroom frenzy. The San Francisco Giants are embroiled in a scandal completely of their own making. And it just keeps getting worse.
The San Francisco Chronicle published a piece on Friday that confirms what I said in my opinion post on Thursday.
Jun 19, 2026; West Sacramento, California, USA; Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto (9) celebrates with first baseman Nolan Schanuel (18) after hitting a home run against the Athletics during the fourth inning at Sutter Health Park.
The Los Angeles Angels seemed to be on their way to a much-needed, loud victory against the Athletics on Friday night. An offensive barrage after back-to-back low-scoring losses is exactly what they needed — until it didn’t matter when the lead was lost.
With 12 outs to go, the Angels held what looked like a comfortable seven-run lead.
