KNOXVILLE, Tenn.—Georgia’s pursuit of the unprecedented remains on track, and seems to be getting easier every week. If only Kirby Smart could give himself permission to revel in it.
Smart’s two-time national champion Bulldogs have won 27 straight games overall and a record-tying 28 consecutive Southeastern Conference games. They’re now the first program in league history to complete three straight 8–0 SEC seasons. Asked about that accomplishment after Georgia throttled Tennessee 38–10 Saturday, Smart said, “Yeah. I gotta go play (Georgia) Tech next week.

A curious post-game decision by Caleb Williams made the USC quarterback a hot topic around the college football world on Saturday as Trojans’ woes continued to end the regular season.
USC’s 38–20 road loss to UCLA (7–4) capped a remarkable fall from grace for the program that will finish the year unranked for the first time under Lincoln Riley. Following the game, which some believe will be his last in college, USC announced Williams had “elected not to speak to the media.” The announcement led to an outpour of reactions to the junior standout’s actions on social media.

Where would Oregon quarterback Bo Nix be had he not left Auburn following the 2021 season?
He may be mulling over the Tigers’ embarrassing 31-10 home loss to 26-point underdog New Mexico State Saturday night. Auburn fell to 6-5 and 3-3 in the SEC in the first year of coach Hugh Freeze.

Nix, meanwhile, kept his No. 6 ranked Oregon team in the national championship hunt at 10-1 with a 49-13 win over Arizona State.

The NHL just wrapped up its pair of Global Series games in Sweden with the Maple Leafs taking on the Red Wings and the Wild taking on the Senators.
And with any event like this, there’s usually some kind of “cultural exchange” activity. Those are always interesting, and the NHL had a doozy for Senators forward Parker Kelly.
So what kind of activities could there be in Sweden? Skiing? Assembling Ikea furniture? Discussing the nation’s history of geopolitical neutrality.
Nope.

Auburn entered Saturday’s game against New Mexico State as 25.5-point favorites to beat the Aggies at home. Instead, the Tigers got trounced, ultimately falling to New Mexico State 31–10.
For Auburn coach Hugh Freeze, the loss was familiar territory. Last season, Freeze was coaching at Liberty when the Flames hosted the Aggies as 24-point favorites. In that game as well, Freeze’s team lost big—with a final score of 49–14.
If you are thinking those are two pretty big losses for a team that entered a game as a pretty big favorite, you would be correct. Historically so.

Florida State suffered a crushing blow against North Alabama Saturday evening, losing quarterback Jordan Travis to what appeared to be a serious lower-body injury. The Seminoles star was taken off the field in an ambulance, yielding his position to backup Tate Rodemaker.
The injury was a serious setback for one of college football’s most improved players, and serves as an obvious obstacle to Florida State’s playoff hopes. However, it also dampened a further happy occasion for the Seminoles: the 10-year reunion of the program’s 2013 national championship team.

The NCAA gave word to Oregon State and Washington State that the schools can compete as a two-team conference for the 2024 and ’25 seasons, according to Jon Wilner of The Mercury News.
NCAA bylaws dictate that conferences must have at least eight members to compete at the FBS level.
However, the bylaws also dictate that a conference shall continue to be considered an FBS conference for two years following “the date when it fails to satisfy the eight full FBS member requirement due to one or more of its member’s failure to comply with the FBS membership requirements.

Before Robert Griffin III made the jump to television and started dishing out his share of wild takes, he was known for his speed. That makes the way that Clemson coach Dabo Swinney blew past him on Saturday even more impressive.
Griffin was on hand for the Tigers’ game against North Carolina, and Griffin decided to see if he could keep up with Swinney and his team as they made their iconic entrance into Death Valley.
The ex-NFL QB tried to time it so that he was running with Swinney, but the 53-year-old head coach had a full head of steam and no one was catching him.

The rules of football can be confounding. What is a catch? Depends on who you ask. How many points are kicks worth? One or three, it sort of depends.
But the convoluted rules of football are worth it when they come up in big moments, as Kansas State and Kansas showed in their rivalry match on Saturday.
The Jayhawks had just scored to go up 13–7 with the extra point pending. But before that lead could reach 14–7, the Wildcats blocked the Jayhawks’ extra point attempt, and cornerback Keenan Garber returned it all the way back to the end zone for two points.

Just when you thought Auburn was turning the page this season, New Mexico State came barreling into town. After winning three games in row, Hugh Freeze had one more game to prepare for Alabama, but the Aggies had other plans.
There was nothing pretty about what went down at Auburn today in-front of a stunned crowd that headed towards the exits mid-way through the fourth quarter. It’s not as if New Mexico State should’ve been sneaking up on the Tigers, entering the game with a 8-3 record on the season.
