With the dust settled on the latest round of conference realignment musical chairs (at least, for now), there are four Pac-12 schools remaining without a clear home come 2024: Stanford, Cal, Oregon State and Washington State. As Cougars school president Kirk Schulz described it in an interview on Wednesday with ESPN’s Pete Thamel: “It’s like a breakup; it’s awkward. No one wants to sit there for too long.”
Following USC and UCLA’s defection for the Big Ten last year, Oregon and Washington have followed suit to join the conference.

The NFL preseason has begun. Here’s how to watch Friday’s Bengals vs. Packers game.
Jay Monahan took a leave of absence from his post as PGA Tour commissioner exactly one week after announcing the Tour’s surprising plans to merge with the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF). The timing of the “medical situation” was tough to ignore, but now Monahan has revealed it was anxiety that led to his health scare.
Speaking ahead of this week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, the first FedEx Cup Playoff event, Monahan explained that negotiations for the merger with the Saudi PIF, LIV Golf, and DP World Tour took a toll on him both mentally and physically.
As he prepares for his official enshrinement into the Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday, Dwyane Wade sat down with Sports Illustrated to discuss one of the most memorable games of his career.
Wade joined The Crossover podcast for a deep dive into Game 3 of the 2006 Finals, when he led the Heat to their first Finals game win in franchise history with a 42-point, 13-rebound effort that included a 13-point comeback in the fourth quarter.
U.S. men’s national team keeper Matt Turner became the latest American star to make a summer move, trading Arsenal for Nottingham Forest.
The 29-year-old joins the Premier League side on a four-year deal in a transfer reportedly worth £10 million ($12.8 million).
Turner has made 32 caps for the U.S. in his international career and was the USMNT’s starting keeper for all four of its matches at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He joins Christian Pulisic, Yunus Musah, Brenden Aaronson and Tim Weah as U.S. stars to seal a transfer in the current window.
The NHL changed forever when Wayne Gretzky sat behind a table and dabbed his tears on Aug. 9, 1988. That day, the Edmonton Oilers announced that they had traded the Great One to the Los Angeles Kings.
It was easily the biggest trade in hockey history and one of the biggest in sports.
It was a turning point for the NHL as the league’s biggest star switched from playing in a smaller market in Alberta to playing in Los Angeles.
This trade was so massive, that ESPN did a documentary about it; one of the few instances they didn’t try to completely ignore the NHL.
Skip Bayless’s show Undisputed will return to Fox Sports 1 later this month with a new cast of characters. Former Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman is one name who has already been reported as a cohost to Bayless, but it doesn’t stop there.
According to a report from Sports Business Journal‘s John Ourand, former ESPN host Rachel Nichols will be a regular panelist on the program when it returns Aug. 28.
Verstappen clinched the 2022 title with four races to go. He could clinch it even earlier in 2023.
An NFL team makes the jump from worst to first in its division almost every season.
Last year it was the Jaguars, who went from the worst record in the NFL in back-to-back seasons to the best in the AFC South. The Bengals had the first overall pick after finishing last in 2020, then took home the AFC North title in 2021. And the Commanders (at the time, the Washington Football Team) finished first in the NFC East in 2020 — albeit with a losing record — on the heels of a fourth-place finish the year before.
The Aaron Rodgers transformation from the final stretch of his tenure with the Packers, to the start of his time with the Jets has been one of the biggest NFL storylines this offseason. And regardless of anyone’s feelings on the situation, it’s tough to ignore just how much fun the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback appears to be having with his new team.
HBO’s Hard Knocks has already given a glimpse into how much of an impact Rodgers has had on the field, but it’s safe to say he’s also having no trouble making new friends in New York.
