Broncos coach Sean Payton did not hold back on his thoughts about the NFL’s gambling policy that has led to a series of players suspended for violating the league’s mandate, including his own defensive lineman Eyioma Uwazurike.
Payton told USA Today Sports on Tuesday that as more players have been suspended recently, the league must look at its own communication of the gambling protocol.
“When you have a bunch of players getting D’s, you have to start looking at the message,” Payton told Jarrett Bell of USA Today Sports.

Another $304 million was wasted Tuesday; surprisingly, it did not end up in Ukraine.
Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown signed a ‘supermax’ contract extension, totaling a tremendous five-year, $304 million deal — the biggest contract signed in NBA history.
Now, if you were to take a step back and ask yourself who the highest-paid player in the NBA is (assuming you’re that bored), you’d probably guess LeBron James.
Or Giannis Antetokounmpo. Maybe Nikola Jokic, considering he’s the ‘head-and-shoulders’ best player in the league right now.
Turns out it’s actually the No.

Good start to my camp trip in Allen Park, Mich., a short drive west of Detroit. My takeaways from Lions camp …
1) One particular area where there could be a tangible difference is in the flexibility defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn will have on the back end, with Cam Sutton, Kerby Joseph, C.J. Gardner-Johnson and second-round pick Brian Branch among the pieces with the malleability to move all over the secondary. That should give Glenn a green light to be aggressively creative in playing mind games with quarterbacks.

Last month, Sports Illustrated’s Tom Verducci stated that despite the MLB season being less than halfway completed, the AL MVP race was an absolute done deal.
Many sports bettors were in complete agreement as they flooded sportsbooks to wager on the Angels’ Shohei Ohtani to win the Most Valuable Player Award in the American League. The dominant talent, who opened as the +200 favorite at SI Sportsbook prior to the start of the season, has now become a massive prohibitive favorite at -1099.

After Sean McVay considered retiring, he chose to return to the Rams instead of taking some time off. However, McVay got some big news during the offseason away from football.
On Tuesday, the Los Angeles coach revealed his wife is pregnant with their first child, and he spent most of the offseason preparing for his arrival.
“It was great to be able to spend time with my wife, especially because it’s exciting we have a little boy coming here in a few months and my appreciation for her and just that process in general is significant,” McVay said, via ProFootballTalk.

Biff Poggi has only been the head football coach at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte since November. That has not kept his brief tenure from getting spicy!

Biff Poggi, whose legal name is not ‘Biff,’ is not afraid to let loose. He marches to the beat of his own drum. This is a real outfit that he once wore on the sideline of a nationally televised high school game:

His profile picture on Twitter is an image of an egg. No context.
He recently got in a Twitter battle with a rival coach and took aim at his own boosters.

Jimmy Graham is a New Orleans Saints legend. He played just five seasons for the Saints from 2010-14. But he made his mark on the franchise, averaging 10 touchdowns per season. He led the entire NFL with 16 touchdown catches in 2013.
He made the All-Pro Team twice and the Pro Bowl three times. But prior to the 2015 season, the Saints traded Graham to the Seattle Seahawks. He spent three years in the Pacific Northwest before two years stints in both Green Bay and Chicago.
Graham remained a productive player, though never again reaching his All-Pro level from his time in New Orleans.

The Dodgers’ first move of deadline season is to bring back a familiar face: Kiké Hernández.
As reported by Ken Rosenthal on Tuesday, the Dodgers will be acquiring Hernández from the Red Sox, with whom he spent the last three seasons. They’ll send two right-handed pitching prospects—Nick Robertson, who debuted this year, and Justin Hagenman, who is in Triple-A—back to Boston.
It’s been a rough two years for Hernández, who is due to become a free agent this winter.
